Thomas Walker is credited with being the first person to experiment with round-arm bowling in the 1780s, and he also was the first "lobbing slow bowler" according to Billy Beldham. He was undoubtedly able to bowl fast - Beldham said that a law was passed against "jerking" because of Walker's "frightful pace". Beldham thought little of his batting either - "he was a tedious fellow to bowl at ... and the slowest runner between wickets I have ever seen." It was said that David Harris once bowled 170 balls at him and conceded one run.
