Wade Townsend, a former state under-17 and under-19 batsman, became an important member of the senior side in 2009-10 by scoring three first-class centuries. The first time he reached three figures for the Bulls was in a tour match against West Indies, but he had to wait until the second half of the season for more success. A left-hander, he posted 121 in a testing situation against Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield and scrapped to 114 not out in more tricky circumstances against South Australia. In the lead-up to the Shield final he hit 311 for his club side Toombul, the highest score in Brisbane first grade.
In 2007-08 Townsend, who was on a rookie contract for two seasons, performed strongly in the Cricket Australia Cup, winning a nomination for the Academy batting programme, and spent the off-season scoring 10 hundreds in 18 games for Edwinstowe in Nottinghamshire. The following summer he posted a century for the QAS against the ACT and was promoted to the Twenty20 team for four matches, scoring 82 runs with a best of 35. Townsend's grandfather Leslie umpired the fifth Test of the 1958-59 Ashes series. When he is not playing cricket he works as a butcher and fish filleter.
