ends the match with a full toss which is pulled to midwicket
Chargers vs MI, 32nd match at Centurion, IPL, May 06 2009 - Match Result
Whew, good game that. Low-scoring with plenty of twists and turns, no pun intended. After RP Singh's double strike Mumbai were on the back foot, but a 53-run stand between Shah and Duminy had revived them. Then Gilchrist turned to part-time spin and Suman almost immediately got Shah. Then just when Bravo seemed primed to assist Duminy he gave Suman a second when the bowler returned. Then it was all over to Rohit Sharma, who took a hat-trick. Deccan came back strong and pulled it out from beneath Mumbai's feet.
RP, Suman and Rohit all bowled well. Deccan win by 19 runs and are now at two on the points table. Mumbai are second last at seventh. Deccan were without Edwards and Ojha but still did superbly. Crucial strikes at the start, around the half-way mark, and during the slog. Those will win you games. Mumbai just choked.
SuperSport Park has been treated to a great game. Not many runs but plenty of wickets. Its good to see matches dominated by bowlers, that too spinners, in this format. Lets go to the post-match presentation.
Tendulkar says Mumbai's bowlers did well but the batsmen didn't reciprocate. Says Shah did his well as pinch hitter. But whats this about a pinch hitter in Twenty20, I ask?
Next up is Gilchrist. He says Deccan would have liked some more runs and says he was foolish with the bat. But credits the batsmen who hung on and then the spinners who protected a decent score. Says this is a big win. A special shout out to Harris for that catch at third man and the ball to get Tendulkar. Says Rohit was 'outstanding' and 'unbelievable'.
Few surprises that Rohit is Man of the Match. His 38 was Deccan's best score and then came a hat-trick. Really a good evening for him. He says the pitch wasn't that easy to bat on but smiles when he talks about his bowling.
So thats the end of that. We have two games tomorrow so don't forget to join us. Bye for now!
aims for leg stump with the full ball, batsman clears the front leg and swings hard, managing a little inside edge down toward short fine leg
makes room and pulls a length ball just wide of mid-on
yorker just outside off stump and he cannot get bat on ball
full just outside off stump, clears the leg and swings to square leg
sends down a full toss, which Kulkarni gets across to and paddles fine
Final over and its all over for Mumbai. RP Singh will finish it off. Why not Rohit?
good shot that! Harris errs in length with a half tracker and Raje gets into shape to pull that flat and just over the deep midwicket ropes for half a dozen
plants the back leg across off stump and drives hard at the full ball, just managing to get a wee bit of wood on the ball and it rolls into the covers
jumps back to the seventh stump and Harris follows him, beating bat
limply plays a short ball on the body, taking a hand off the bat, its up in the air and drops safely in front of square leg
smart bouncer, goes just over Raje's left shoulder
slides down the pads, Kulkarni works it away, a good throw comes in to Harris, who has plenty of time to dislodge the stumps but doesn't collect in cleanly and the batsman is just home
Rohit is all smiles and why not? Didn't try anything fancy. Tossed it up, mixed in some flat stuff, and waited.
fires it in, batsman swings an inside edge just wide of square leg
flights it down leg stump and thats swung to the deep on one bounce
back to full and fast and thats driven to extra cover for one
Dramatic collapse at the hands of some clever slow bowling. Rohit is the man right now.
simple stumping! Rohit proposes, Tiwary accepts, but he's a mile away from the ball as it breaks away from the stumps and an ecstatic Gilchrist takes care of the rest
fired in flat and Raje jams it out to midwicket
Yuvraj Singh and now Rohit. Amazing scenes here. Rohit Sharma. Hats off to Gilchrist too.
and he's got it! Rohit Sharma gets three in three! He fires down the leg stumps, no air whatsoever, Duminy moves back and tries to play it over square leg but gets a thin inside edge which Gilchrist, smartly anticipating, holds onto as he moves across
Deccan are making this into a thriller. Rohit is on a hat-trick mind you.
Still, a superb outing from Suman. Kept it simple and reaped the rewards.
he's dropped it! Suman keeps it nice and straight, Tiwary backs away and drills it back very hard to the bowler, who grabs it near the midriff but lets it out
a bit straighter and he makes room to swing the ball away for two
