shot, four, end of the match! That is an excellent shot under pressure from Das and he has been dispatched to mid-wicket for a four.
CSK vs KKR, 41st match at Chennai, IPL, Apr 30 2012 - Ball by Ball Commentary
KKR won by 5 wickets (with 2 balls remaining)
Presentation
Gambhir: Felt good, Chennai fought well, our boys did a good job restricting them to 139. We know we have a lot of potential and quality, we need to a complement each other. Das needs to be given the man of the match.
Dhoni: Hussey did well, got run-out so that wasn't a bad decision, the surface is not allowing us to play our strokes, the spinners need to come into their own, most teams are doing well because of their spinners. It is not as if the pitch is bad but it is not suiting our strategy.
So Gambhir, like AB de Villiers had done in one of the earlier games, has given away his MoM award to Das. He says, "Seniors giving me a lot of confidence, Gambhir's my mentor."
The match went down to the wire, at four needed from three, it could have gone either way. And then Debabrata Das smacked it away to the fence to get a four and push KKR to within one point of Delhi at the top of the table.
Chennai lose another one game at home, and the fortress that was breached some time back, is now showing signs of cracking. Time for the Super Kings to give a befitting reply but that will be a story of another day. Tonight, it was Kolkata who bowled extremely well, and then batted decently under pressure to win it.
Gautam Gambhir was the star of the show with the bat, batting almost right through for the win. His rich vein of form continues this season and now he is the third highest scorer in this season of the IPL, behind Rahane and Sehwag.
in the air, and caught! Pathan tried to slog sweep it, top edged it away and du Plessis takes a simple catch! Match is alive despite the obvious possibility of one stroke finishing it.
tossed up, wanted to slog it away, missed completely! Dot!
that is a leg-spinner, a tad shorter and Pathan read it well, cuts it and goes to the deep point region where Yo Mahes does a good job with the fielding but cannot prevent two.
6 needed off 6. Ashwin, 1/16 in 3 overs with the ball. He had figures of 1/1 in 1. Expectedly, a lot of time spent on discussing fields Ashwin has already called MSD twice over after he has taken his position. Pathan waits.
yorker, drilled to long-on and it is the end of Bravo's spell, a bitter-sweet last over.
7 off 7 needed.
pitched up outside the off stump, tries to get under it, gets a bit of an edge, rolls to long-off and they are able to come back for the second because of the mistimed stroke.
full-toss, outside the off stump and drilled to the covers for a single
pitched up, slower, outside the off stump and he tries to hit it over the extra-cover, mistimed but they come back for the second. Pathan wanted the third too...
full-toss and on pads, the new batsman, Das, puts him away to the place it needed to be, flicked to fine-leg for a four!
gone, lbw! Pitched right up, slower, missed that slog shot did Gambhir and it hits the pads, loud shot and the umpire upholds the appeal, rightly so as well.
16 needed off two. Far cry of a pitch from the one on which Morkel smacked 28 off one Kohli over. It is Bravo here.
short ball, pulled really well by the batsman, but the field is on the fence on the leg side, it goes straight to deep mid-wicket and they take a single. Six off the over.
Five singles in the over so far.
defends on the front foot, opens the face of the bat and easily rotates the strike.
Gambhir tries to mow it across the line and there was a huge appeal there for an lbw. It seemed to be going down the leg-side, or so I think anyway.
short ball, goes on to the back foot, driven to the long-on fielder for a single
short, cut away, gets an outside edge and it goes flying on the bounce to Michael Hussey at short third-man, they are still through
Lot of thought in the field positioning.
quicker, carrom ball from Ashwin, Pathan sees it to his bat, taps it to the off side for a single
Morkel's ended on 1/24 in his four overs.
flicks it away easily for a single, end of Morkel's four overs.
Gambhir's definitely sweating out there, exhausted.
pitched up on the pads, tapped gently to the mid-wicket region for a quick single.
pitched right up, on the front foot, defended, inside edge for a single
on the middle, dabbed away gently to mid-on and they call each other for a second. The bowler had to run for this one and the batsmen are able to make it in time.
drifts on his pads, probably deliberately to cramp him for room, played away to the leg side for a single
Yusuf Pathan comes in at five. His form this season has been a tad poor, he will love to play through to the end here.
flicked away and the slower one seems to have beaten him, goes into the hands of the short square-leg fielder, three down and an outside hope of a twist in the tale.
28 needed from 24
