Lahore Qalandars have won it by 6 wickets! Short and wide by Gregory, Patel stands tall and flat-bats it down the ground, everyone is in to save the single so it trickles away to the long-off boundary
Kings vs Qalandars, 6th Match at Karachi, PSL, Jan 30 2022 - Match Result
Qalandars won by 6 wickets (with 4 balls remaining)
11.35 PM: That's it from ESPNcricinfo's coverage of Sunday's double-header in PSL 2022. We hope you enjoyed our watch. Don't forget to join us again tomorrow when Quetta Gladiators take on the defending champions Multan Sultans. Until then, it's goodbye and goodnight from Momin and the rest of the team.
Shaheen Afridi: "We wanted to play positive, aggressive cricket from the get go and look for wickets early on. Rashid Khan through the middle phases was excellent. Haris Rauf made a good comeback following yesterday's game. The senior members of the team are assisting me in captaincy-related decisions and they are always there to guide me. I hope Fakhar can keep batting like this for Lahore and Pakistan, he was quite brilliant."
Babar Azam: "I felt we got a good score on the board after playing well in the powerplay. I want to credit Fakhar Zaman for his outstanding innings. Our pacers didn't execute the variations at the dying overs and I feel we need to field well too."
Fakhar Zaman, quite deservedly, is the player of the match. "I try to think of it as one ball at a time and I don't try anything significantly different. The pitch was taking some turn for their spinners so I had to carefully take the chance against them. With time, I am becoming more aware of my role at the top of the order."
Presentations coming your way shortly, stay tuned
11.20 PM: Third consecutive defeat for Babar Azam and Karachi Kings and they now find themselves at the bottom of the ladder. Take nothing away from Lahore Qalandars, though. They did extremely well to restrict the opposition to 170, a below-par total after the kind of start they had; remaining unscathed for the entirety of the first 10 overs. The honors, however, belong to one and only man - Fakhar Zaman - for his staggering innings of 106 off 60. He didn't find much support from the top-order but Mohammad Hafeez and Samit Patel stuck around for long enough to allow him to unleash his wrath on the Kings. Lahore Qalandars now have the crucial two points that they were eyeing while Karachi Kings are yet to open their account. Difficult times for Babar Azam and co as they ponder over the possible weaklings and how they can tweak their combination for the upcoming matches.
Sami: "I think Karachi had enough on the board some really poor bowling from the quicks the spinners went pretty well but the quicks bowled poorly. Too short to Fakhar when they clearly see he likes it short. And the middle order really needs a look at as I see no finisher here."
Ibad: "The thing Karachi kings are lacking is good bowling. Nabi and imad are not performing. Umaid asif is not good enough to be leader for bowling. Can't wait for aamir to come back"
Scores are level with 5 balls still to be bowled
Squirts it down to thirdman! Pace-on from Gregory, fires it in the blockhole outside off, Patel jams his bat down and gets it off the outer half of his bat, gets it fine enough of the fine leg fielder
5 off 6 now
Slower ball, wide outside off, tried to anticipate Patel's movement who charged him but it's a bit too wide
Right, 6 off 6 and Lewis Gregory to bowl
Short and wide outside off, shuffles away and clatters it away towards deep point
David Wiese the new man in, 7 needed off 7
Fakhar departs for a magnificent 106 off 60. A flicker of hope for the Kings?
Caught at thirdman! Slower bouncer outside off-stump, Fakhar upper-cuts it but there is no pace to work with and it's safely held by Imad Wasim
Pitched up, just outside off-stump, looks to go up and over the off-side but outer-halves it to the thirdman region
Slower delivery, Patel is way too early into his pull shot and misses
Shortish, on middle and leg, pulled towards short midwicket
Low full-toss, slapped back towards long-on
This over has pretty much sealed the deal for the Qalandars
make it four more! 22 runs off the over as Patel pulls this short-pitched slower delivery down to backward square leg
Smoked back over his head! Patel joins the party as he lofts this overpitched delivery down the ground and it scutters away for another boundary
Full and wide outside off, dug out to sweeper cover
Swatted away for four more! Short and sitting up perfectly for him as he holds his shape and murders it through the cow corner region
Attempted slower bouncer, misdirected and he lets it fly through
Hundred for Fakhar Zaman! Slower short-pitched delivery, Fakhar bunts it into the vacant off-side and scurries back for a couple. Take a bow, Fakhar. Stunning knock
Mauled over wide long on! Overpitched by Ilyas and Fakhar clears his front leg to thwack it high and handsome over the long-on boundary. He's on 98* now
Slower delivery on a length, Samit swings hard across the line but fails to connect
A touch fuller, wide outside off, Fakhar with his high hands and long levers still reaches that and hammers it back over the umpire's head
Thwacked away for another four! Pace-on from Umaid, not short enough either, Fakhar gleefully accepts it and thumps this one way in front of square, tremendous power behind that
Swivel-pulled for four more! Back of a length slower ball again, this time he waits for it to arrive and pulls it along the ground behind backward square leg, terrific placement
