Glenn Maxwell scored a second consecutive Shield century to stall South Australia's push for victory on the third day at Adelaide Oval. His hundred could not prevent Victoria from following-on, but without it the deficit they faced would have been far greater.
Resuming on 4 for 146, David Hussey and Maxwell continued the fightback for Victoria, before Hussey was caught behind off Joe Mennie for 71. Maxwell carried on to score 119 off 162 balls, but Victoria fell away after his dismissal and were out for 309. Kane Richardson finished with 4 for 51, while Chadd Sayers took three wickets for South Australia.
Having taken a lead of 202, South Australia enforced the follow-on and had Victoria in trouble at 2 for 29. The openers had fallen in the space of six runs. Marcus Stoinis and Cameron White steadied the innings with a 64-run partnership, and Victoria had eight wickets in hand to wipe out the deficit of 109 and get ahead on the final day.
