Mark Steketee takes five but Daniel Hughes' fight keeps contest even

Tanveer Sangha was in the action twice late in the day as Queensland wobbled

Queensland 193 and 5 for 105 lead New South Wales 186 (Hughes 86*, Steketee 5-46) by 112 runs
Bowlers continued to dominate at the Gabba with a late brace of wickets, the first of them Marnus Labuschagne, keeping New South Wales in with the chance of a manageable chase after Daniel Hughes had carried his bat for the second time this season.
Following 12 wickets on the opening day, 13 fell on the second as Queensland earned a first-innings lead of seven, with Mark Steketee claiming 5 for 46, before stuttering in their second innings.
Usman Khawaja fell to a brilliant leg-side catch from Baxter Holt, Bryce Street was caught in the gully and Matt Renshaw edged a good delivery from Hayden Kerr.
But just as it appeared Queensland would get through to the close without further loss, Labuschagane flicked a delivery off his pads which was superbly caught long leg by Tanveer Sangha.
In the next over, this time with ball in hand, Tanveer was the wicket-taker when Sam Truloff lazily flicked to midwicket.
New South Wales had resumed two down in their first innings and Queensland's seamers soon made inroads with a series of catches into the cordon.
Michael Neser was among the wickets having Jack Edwards and Holt taken at second slip and when he removed Trent Copeland second ball New South Wales were 7 for 86
The danger of a sizeable deficit was avoided through a stand 66 between Hughes and Chris Tremain before Steketee worked his way through the final three to finish with his second five-wicket haul of the season.
It was another reminder of the depth in Australia's pace bowling. This time last year, Steketee was named in Australia's Test squad for the postponed tour of South Africa and earlier this season was briefly drafted into the Ashes in Adelaide. However, he has since been overtaken by Scott Boland.
When Steketee had Tanveer taken at cover it meant that Hughes had carried his bat for the second time in three matches having also done it against Victoria at the MCG
