Middlesex CCC was officially founded in 1864 and, while it had played before then, it had no permanent home ground. An arrangement was made with the owner of an hotel to use his pitch in North Way and the first match was played there against Sussex in June 1864. In all, Middlesex played 16 matches there until, in 1868, the owner decided that there was more money to be made selling the land fore development and ended the county's tenure.
