Tanzid Hasan pipped the likes of Mohammad Naim, Rony Talukdar and Soumya Sarkar among Bangladesh's openers who could replace Tamim Iqbal in the long term. Tanzid's nickname is also Tamim, and many have found similarities between the two, at least in their aggression at a young age. For just how long Tanzid can stay on as the first choice, depends on his consistency.

Tanzid was Bangladesh's great hope in the World Cup in 2023, though he made just a single half-century, averaging 16.11 in the nine matches. He showed vulnerability driving through the off-side, particularly against high-quality fast bowling. Tanzid's only fifty was against India in Pune when he shelved his doubts, using his limited strokes to good effect. In his only ODI since the World Cup, he made a breezy 84 against Sri Lanka in Chattogram.

His T20I form was up and down in 2024 too. His debut series against Zimbabwe went well enough to confirm his place in the T20 World Cup-bound squad. He made two half-centuries and generally looked good in the format; he was among the top run-getters in the BPL in 2024, with 384 runs at a 135.68 strike rate. At the World Cup, however, he made only 76 runs in seven innings, renewing doubts about his place in the team in the long run.

Tanzid is from Bogra, a town 200km to the northwest of Dhaka, where he had to convince his father to allow him to play cricket. He spent some years at the Bangla Trac Cricket Academy in Rajshahi, before a strong season in the Dhaka Premier League in 2019. He was part of the Under-19 World Cup-winning side for Bangladesh. He made 80 in the quarterfinal against South Africa. Tanzid lists Tamim Iqbal as his favourite cricketer.
