82.1 to RA Jadeja, Jadeja won't get a hundred. The partnership ends at 199. A mental error. He left all these balls last over. Short of a length, angling across, no need to play at it, but he just pokes at it, and edges it through to Das. 343/7 88.5 to Akash Deep, Akash tries another big hit, but this time he seems to have misjudged the length. He thinks it is full enough to drive but it isn't, and gets big on him to end up as a skier for mid-off. 367/8 90.5 to R Ashwin, Ashwin miscues one. Not the best of shots. Throws his hands at a wide length ball, doesn't quite reach it, toe-ends it up in the air, and the mid-off runs back and to his right to complete the catch. Ashwin gets a standing ovation.. 374/9

5.1 to RG Sharma, he gets his man. In-out, in-out, and he draws the edge. This is superb bowling after that first over that didn't make him play. Wobble-seam, good length, Rohit has to play the angle, and it seams away a touch to take a healthy edge at a good height for second slip. 14/1 7.3 to Shubman Gill, that is an unusual dismissal. Too full, down the leg side, Gill looks. for runs, but ends up nicking it. Loud enough edge. Some reward for three lovely overs although not how you envisage it. 28/2 9.2 to V Kohli, Bangladesh are all over India. Kohli falls to his old stumbling block. The drive outside off to a ball that is not close enough. A touch shorter than the last one. Still a good length, lovely straightening of the line, Kohli edges it through to the keeper. The drive is not on here. 34/3 25.3 to RR Pant, oh that's a soft dismissal. Mahmud might have earned some luck with that first spell of his. This is short, wide, Pant a little late into the cut. And not a proper, full-blooded cut. A bit slow into the shot, and he is late onto it, edging it through to the keeper. Off the toe of the bat. He is disgusted with himself. His contact with the ball comes behind his body. Clearly late on it. 96/4 91.2 to JJ Bumrah, Five-for for Mahmud in back-to-back innings! Lands it on a length just outside off, squaring up Bumrah and taking the outside edge that flies to third slip. Mahmud looks skywards, goes down on his knees and does the sajdah as he becomes the first Bangladesh bowler to pick up a five-for In India. India bowled out for 376. 376/10

41.4 to YBK Jaiswal, Pace is pace, yaar. 148ks and Jaiswal fends to first slip, Wobble ball on a hard length from over the wicket. Angling away through the fourth-stump channel and Jaiswal tried to ride the bounce on the slightly open-faced defence. Ball took a thin edge and popped gently towards Shadman's chest. Cheeky smile and a wink from Nahid in celebration.. 144/5

42.2 to KL Rahul, Taken at short leg! Bangladesh celebrate and Rahul walks. Cheer from the crowd as Ashwin will come but it's well after Mehidy's celebratory run with an end-to-end grin. Was an 81ks offbreak looped up, drifted in deliciously, landed on a fullish length and turned in towards middle and leg. Rahul tried the leg glance from around knee-roll height but was done in by the spin. Zakir went low to the right and clung on. Took it with both hands, really good catch. 144/6

0.6 to Shadman Islam, Castled and India are on the board in the first over. Bumrah changes angle and comes around the wicket and lands it on a length aiming to hit off. All the previous deliveries were outswingers, and perhaps Shadman expects this one to do the same. He thinks he has covered the line and shoulders arms but this one goes straight on and takes the off pole. Arms aloft, Bumrah celebrates and so does Chennai. 2/1 12.5 to Mushfiqur Rahim, another one bites the dust. Only a matter of time with the intense examination of skill and technique. Bumrah just keeps bashing the good length. Rahim plays the angle, and this ball does the rare thing: swing after bouncing. Remember Ryan Harris did that Cook. Rahim has the angle covered but that swing after pitching takes the outside edge. Rahul takes a sharp catch at second slip. Just too good from India. Watch this replay again and again, and marvel at the swing after bouncing. This usually happens to keepers after the ball has passed the stumps, but this time it has happened early and left Rahim no chance. Also a lovely catch from Rahul because the ball has swung away from him at the last moment. He moves with the ball, almost looking towards point by the time he completes the catch. watches it till the end, soft hands, and a superb reaction to the movement. Lovely cricket all around. A ball worth writing an essay about. 40/5 36.5 to Hasan Mahmud, Edged and taken! It was only a matter of time, wasn't it? Bumrah is too good for Mahmud. Spears in a length ball on the fourth-fifth stump, he hangs his bat out at that. A simple catch for Kohli at second slip and Bangladesh lose their eighth at the stroke of tea. 112/8 42.4 to Taskin Ahmed, yorker it is. The genius has many options. He chooses the yorker. Right on the popping crease. Taskin is not behind its line. Middle and leg stumps clattered. The Bumrah five-for is still on. 130/9

11.1 to Najmul Hossain Shanto, edged and taken at second slip. Shanto walks at Siraj looking to counter the movement, the wobble-seam ball nips away just enough to take the outside edge, and the ball flies quickly to Kohli at second slip who makes no mistake. Just great areas from Siraj. There is no respite, no loose balls. 36/4 47.1 to Nahid Rana, big swing, inside edge, and he is bowled. Rana clears the front leg, swings hard, and ends up playing on. Bumrah is applauding from the deep even though he has missed out on a five-for. 149/10

8.1 to Zakir Hasan, Jafffaaaa and Akash is on the board now. He had to abort his run-up once because Zakir had some issues with the sight-screen. Runs in again and spears it on a length angling at the stumps. Zakir goes for the drive down the ground but is beaten on the inside and the middle stump is broken into two. 22/2 8.2 to Mominul Haque, Action replayyy and Akash leaps in celebration! He is making merry with the eight-over new ball and Bangladesh are in some trouble. He angles it in on a length from around the stumps, Mominul is perhaps done in by the pace as well. He is beaten on the inside edge, the ball then deflects off his back pad to uproot the off pole. Indian seamers making merry in Chennai. 22/3

28.2 to Litton Das, Jurel immediately in action. Jadeja breaks the promising Litton-Shakib stand but getting the former. Tosses this one up outside off, Litton gets across to sweep it but skies the top edge. Jurel makes good ground from long leg and takes it with a dive. A needless shot at this point and it consumes Litton, who rarely looked troubled in his stay. 91/6 30.3 to Shakib Al Hasan, Is it bat-pad? Jadeja and Pant think so and now the umpire's get together and take it upstairs. "We have a review for a bump ball," says the TV umpire. Jadeja had floated it on a fullish length outside off, Shakib went for the reverse sweep. He got a bottom edge on to the boot and it lobbed up to the on side. Pant jogged a few steps to pouch that. India strike twice in three overs. Another shot that makes you wonder, was it needed?. 92/7 |

2.3 to RG Sharma, 15th wicket of the day. And this is a beauty. Short of a length, Rohit has to play for the angle because it is close to off, and it just straightens enough to take a healthy outside edge for the third slip. 15/1

6.4 to YBK Jaiswal, Nicked behind and Jaiswal is out of here. Rana bowls it full and angles it away, the length inviting the drive. Jaiswal does not lean fully into it and goes for it. He had escaped thrice today but is not four time lucky. 28/2

19.2 to V Kohli, Looks to be plumb, and Kohli does not review! He has been playing most of the spin today - both offspin and left-arm spin - to the on side. This was always a threat and Mehidy's persistence with a stump-to-stump line plays. Once again a flighted full ball, lands just outside off and spins in. It is a half-volley, Kohli presses forward and looks to flick it away but misses and is struck low on the front pad. My word, Snicko returns a feather on the inside edge. 67/3 55.3 to RR Pant, Pant perishes trying to get quick runs. Jumps out of the crease, not quite to its pitch, still goes hard at it. The ball comes slowly off the surface and all he can do is offer a return catch. Some reward for Mehidy, who has toiled tirelessly. Pant thanks the man/woman upstairs while he walks off. He is well and truly back. 234/4

16.2 to Zakir Hasan, sensational catch at gully. This was building up with three testing overs after tea. Loose drive away from the body, it hasn't done much but is far from him, the edge is dying, but Jaiswal dives to his left and plucks this one-handed behind his body. Error in judgement from Zakir. Not cfull enough to be driving. 62/1

21.3 to Shadman Islam, leading edge for a low catch to short midwicket. Not quite how you envisage a wicket but Ashwin has worked hard in this spell and has built up to something. His first wicket of the match. This is short of a length, looks like an easy single, but Shadman is a touch early to close the face, gets the leading edge and Gill dives forward to take a safe catch. On replays, this actually is not shortl enough for the flick behind square on the leg side. 86/2 29.6 to Mominul Haque, what a beauty. Ashwin slows it down, gets some dip, it lands in front of off, turns past the edge, and hits top of off. Just enough turn to go past the edge but not enough to miss the stump. 124/3 33.4 to Mushfiqur Rahim, A superb catch by Rahul diving forward. He thinks he has caught it, the umpires have sent it upstairs to make sure. Tossed up outside off again, Mushfiqur dances down to take on Ashwin and miscues it towards the right of mid-off. It is dying on Rahul even as he gets around to his right and then low down. He has his fingers under the ball - multiple replays confirm the same and that is that for the veteran Bangladesh batter. Huge cheers as Ashwin picks up his third, dismissing Mushfiqur for the fifth time in Test cricket. 146/4 51.4 to Shakib Al Hasan, Bat-pad, Ashwin strikes in his first over of the day! This was what he was working towards yesterday as well, angle it in from around the wicket and use the bounce to his advantage. Shakib took a decent stride forward and tried to defend with a straight bat, which was close to pad. Ball hit high on the inside edge, brushed pad and went low to Jaiswal's left, he takes it with a nice little somersault. Smart field placement too as Jaiswal's was almost at backward short leg. 87.6ks but it looked slower to the eye. Lots of sidespin, lots of celebrations as Shakib's vigil ends. 194/5 57.5 to Mehidy Hasan Miraz, A big ol' yahoo from Mehidy and it allows Ashwin get a five-for to go along with a century. Ashwin's all smiles, Gill's even happier as he hugs him, jumps and ruffles his hair. Prithi, Ashwin's wife, is happy in the crowd too. Ball was generously tossed up, 83ks, and a touch wide. Mehidy danced down and had a rotational swing, got it off the bottom and found long-on. 222/7 59.5 to Taskin Ahmed, House of cards is crumbling indeed, as Harsha Bhogle says. Seam pointing towards slip on this offbreak and Taskin, who was in for a good, short time, tried to club it over mid-on with a short back lift. Got it high and to Siraj at mid-on. 228/9

54.4 to Litton Das, Jadeja has made Litton's ten-ball stay seem longer and more miserable than it actually was. Draws him forward again, lands it around the fuller side of length, spins it away from off stump. Litton tries to defend to the bowler's left and got a thin outside edge. Went low and slow to Rohit at first slip. One brings two, eh?. 205/6 58.6 to Najmul Hossain Shanto, No ton for Shanto, who goes down swinging. 94ks on a length very wide outside off, Shanto trying to slash it on the rise but gets a top edge. Bumrah went to the right from extra cover and held his balance nicely while taking a sideways catch. 222/8 62.1 to Hasan Mahmud, G'day, g'bye. India continue their domination at home. Jadeja gets his third by beating Mahmud's slog sweep and pinging leg stump. 234/10 |
