finds the boundary off the final ball! This time Jones can line up the lack of pace, waits on the slog-pull, and launches through midwicket.
Scotland vs England, 6th Match, Group B at Bridgetown,T20 World Cup, Jun 04 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
3pm We are still hoping to hear from the captains, but Sky Sports has already switched over to Netherlands-Nepal, as indeed I recommend you do, so we will see what they've got to say in due course. From Miller, Vish and Venkat, goodnight!
Jos Buttler: "We were confident coming into the game, obviously expected a tough challenge. There's no easy games at all, but we were confident and the disappointment is for everyone isn't it, both sides and all the crowd here.
There were probably a couple of balls here and there which you want to tighten up on, but I thought, all in all, with all the conditions and the stops and starts, and then the constraints when we went back out, with certain bowlers already been bowled out as well, I thought we scrapped hard and we were confident of chasing that score down."
Richie Berrington: "Everyone's frustrated at not getting a game in. But some positives to take from it at least. The guys who went out to the middle I thought did a really good job. And obviously now, looking ahead, they've had some time out there, so we can take some things from that. But yeah, certainly frustrated that we couldn't get a full game in.
"It would have been interesting to see how the weather affects the pitch, because it did look a little bit of uneven bounce through the day. So yeah, I think if we'd bowled well, we certainly had had an opportunity there."
2.48pm Match abandoned. It's all over red rover. What a pity. That was tantalisingly set up, but the heavens have had the final say.
Cartoft: "A bit unfair to include this in England's record against European teams. What were they supposed to do? Score 75 in 5 overs and declare?" Taking a wicket and not leaving themselves a very tricky chase would have been a start! Besides, they definitely dodged a bullet in their other wash-out against Ireland in 2010, so I don't think it's unfair to point out such a curious record!
David C: "Why do Eng have to score 109 when Sco only scored 90 ???" Because they started the innings before they knew it was a reduced chase. It's about a recalibration of resources. If you know you don't need to keep wickets in hand because all that's left is a 22-ball slog, you go harder, don't you?
2.45pm We're just killing time now... nothing left to see here. Not an awful lot left to see in Dallas either!
Mohaimin: "Yeah good job umpires, keep playing a dead innings. We would have a result by now if they just simply dropped the Scotland innings and gave Eng a 6 over chase. Well done." Yes, you would have thought someone somewhere could have predicted this rain, and planned accordingly. There does seem to be quite a lot of it!
2.37pm This looks unremittingly bleak. The rain is getting heavier. I don't see any way we can get back on inside the cut-off time. England's bewilderingly bad record against European nations in T20 World Cups is set to continue!
Fittingly, though, the first T20I between England and Scotland is set to end exactly as the first ODI did, way back at the dawn of time in 1872 ... 2008!
2.32pm The covers are on! Oh pants... that's a lot of ground-sheets in place... it'll take a while to peel those off... 20 minutes until the cut-off...
2.26pm Well played Scotland. 90 for 0 in ten overs, with a long rain delay to disrupt their rhythm. They will get a DLS boost to push England's target into three figures.
It will be 109 to win, which feels less than their endeavours deserve. But it's a score on the board, and a big challenge for the defending champions!
Mark: "109 as a target seems pretty generous to Scotland considering England didn't get to bowl their best death bowler at the death though...." Them's the breaks. Either way, we have a contest!
so slow it barely stays in the air... 66kph... a miscued slap gets the single, as a shy comes in... could have been tight
slow through the air again, Jones lines up the big yahoo, but the ball never quite arrives... good bowling
more regulation slog-sweep, but there's a man back for the stroke
another attempted reverse, but this time Rashid held that right back... slow through the air, back of a length, and keeps low. Buttler does very well to prevent byes
tossed up outside the eyeline, a flog to long-off, striding into the length
Ten off the over... and it's raining again...
yorker, met as a low full toss from outside off stump, and is that a run-out on the second run?! It was a solid connection down to long-on, but the shy was true as Jones coasted in. He dropped his bat, but got his foot down before the direct hit came in
Big final ball, this
fired in onto the legs, hint of swing on the full length, a swish to leg, but the ball deflects into the off-side
good length to the right-hander, Jones can only pump the ball back up the pitch with a straight-bladed drive
full, fired into the blockhole, across the left-hander, one hand comes off the bat as Munsey yanks a pull to the leg side
pace off, on the pads, clonked over backward square! England are bleeding here! An early shuffle to the off-side to access his legs, and belted over the sweeper's head!
a swing and a miss. Full from Jordan, skidding past the off-stump as Munsey loses his shape
Chris Jordan had a ropey powerplay over, but he's back in a death situation now, and needs to nail it for England's sake
picks off the single out to square leg. That was not the over that England had anticipated from Rashid
magnificent clatter of switch slog! That is astoundingly good, like a left-handed KP! Hoisted high and mighty over what were the covers, and is now deep midwicket!
pre-empts the switch-hit, and it's a wide full-toss! Mashed through the covers, for another boundary!
over the wicket to the left-hander, pitches outside leg and grips, it's the googly, and is there a tickle as Munsey swings into a slog-sweep? England are reviewing The ball lobbed off the knee-roll, up through the arms, and into Buttler's gloves. But doesn't look like bat, or glove. Still, another dot. Pitched way outside leg for the academic lbw appeal
wider line, drawing a slap out to deep cover
kneels into the length-ball, donked over long-off! Super strike, anticipating the full length and launching it with a solid base
So, over to England's trump card... and how, in this situation. Two vital overs looming
flogged flat, off the wide line, out to deep cover. That's an excellent resumption from Moeen. Giving England vital traction
round the wicket, down on one knee, top-edged on the slogsweep! Over the keeper's head, but minimal damage
