"Pretty happy with the performance as a whole, says Markram. "A couple of overs here and there we need to tidy up. I think you always feel you need more runs. But the wicket definitely changes and gets a bit slower, and they were a lot less sloppy. A couple of lessons to take, but nice for the batters to be in the middle and get some runs, especially for Quinny to really get his flow."

"Hard to take a defeat after coming so close," says Aaron Jones. "But we did lack discipline in the bowling at times. Once we play good cricket we can beat any team in the world. But we need to be a lot more disciplined."

Quinton de Kock is player of the match. "We've had some tricky wickets so it was nice to spend sometime in the middle today. The USA put us under pressure towards the end. It was a great game.

"We've still got a couple more games to win. Different venue, different surfaces. Never know what you're going to get out there."

Snake Eyes: "As lucky as the Springboks at the last World Cup!!" Rather be lucky than good, I'd imagine

taj: "Ice cold over from Rabada, that. Wow. Surely PoTM given the context? " Think de Kock's runs were quite useful too!

19.6
Nortje to Jasdeep, no run

full and straight, smacked to mid-off and they don't even bother running as South Africa seal an 18-run victory. The USA gave them a scare, but South Africa were the dominant side for much of this game, and are now five in five at this World Cup

RiwajAdhikari: "If you ask me honestly, I feel South Africa have already used up their slot of allotted luck of this tournament in the first 4 league games. Now onwards, anything can happen." They've won by being the better side today though

19.5
1
Nortje to Gous, 1 run

wide outside off and it's guided down to deep point

19.4
4
Nortje to Gous, FOUR runs

thick outside edge that bounces just in front of short third. He can't properly collect and it flies over him and away to the boundary

19.3
Nortje to Gous, no run

backs away but Nortje follows him at pace, and Gous can only slap it back to Nortje. Mathematically impossible now if South Africa bowl no wides or no-balls

19.2
1
Nortje to Jasdeep, 1 run

pace and back of a length, slapped to deep cover for a single

Amnah : "Oh Danyal! That would be so Pakistan of South Africa"

19.1
1
Nortje to Gous, 1 run

makes room and carves it to cover, and they do decide to take the single, weirdly

Venkat: "SA have the tendency to get beaten by a fellow Southafrican and its happening too many times now..KP, Grant Elliot, Van der Merwe to name a few!"

18.6
Rabada to Jasdeep, no run

change of pace from Rabada, a swing and a miss, and a phenomenal over ends. Just 2 off it and a wicket. It's undone all the damage Shamsi did, and South Africa breathe easy again

18.5
1
Rabada to Gous, 1 run

slapped to backward point and they ease through for one

Rob: "Really hope the the Americans get across the line. Even if they don't, I can't see SA going past the semi final stage. They don't have the quality to be champions " I've spent the whole tournament thinking South Africa will get turned over by the first quality side they face. Would be poetic justice perhaps if they finally win a tournament where they don't look the best side

18.4
1
Rabada to Jasdeep, 1 run

offcutter picked up over midwicket for a single

18.3
Rabada to Jasdeep, no run

High pace from Rabada again. Wide outside off and full, and another swing and a miss from Jasdeep

18.2
Rabada to Jasdeep, no run

slower ball wide outside off that he pokes at and misses

18.1

Rabada to Harmeet Singh, OUT

full toss that's timed very well. Too well, in fact. It flies to midwicket, where Stubbs comes across to complete a simple catch. Harmeet puts his hands on his head before he has to depart after a knock that breathed life back into the USA's chances

Shamsi to Gous, SIX runs

six more! Six more! Is this actually happening then? Poor from Shamsi again, another long-hop, and the pull just about clears a leaping cow corner fielder. 22 off the over, and the US are suddenly in a position of near-parity

17.5
6
Shamsi to Gous, SIX runs

long-hop gets the treatment it deserves. Swivels and clobbers it over midwicket. It splits the fielders but flies over the rope anyway!

17.4
1
Shamsi to Harmeet Singh, 1 run

gets a top edge and it flies into the air, but into a gap as David Miller at long-off is unable to get there in time

17.4
1w
Shamsi to Harmeet Singh, 1 wide

goes too wide once more

17.3
6
Shamsi to Harmeet Singh, SIX runs

goes wide again, but errs by also going full. That means when Harmeet picks it up and uses a lot of bottom hand, he successfully drags it over wide long-on all the way for six

17.2
Shamsi to Harmeet Singh, no run

wide outside off again, but this one's just within the guidelines

17.2
1w
Shamsi to Harmeet Singh, 1 wide

goes across but Shamsi goes wider. The umpire thinks it's too wide though, much to Shamsi's displeasure

17.1
1
Shamsi to Gous, 1 run

picked up over and behind midwicket and Stubbs cuts it off in the deep

Mukund: "SA is one team that was lucky to get to the Super Eight, by winning close matches (1 run, 4 runs, etc) in the league stage. Will USA get over the line here as SA seem to be leaking too many runs towards the tail end of this innings?" They can't win can they? Chokers if they lose close ones, undeserving if they win them
