2.2 to CH Gayle, Gayle on his way! Umar Gul banged one in a little short, the ball left Gayle off the seam, he nibbled at it and Kamran Akmal took a big step to his left to hold a catch at stomach height. That's an identical dismissal to the way Gayle fell in the warm-up match against India last week.. 7/1 48.2 to DR Smith, Smith attempted to hammer the ball to leg but it was wider than he thought and he ended up hitting it into the heavens off the toe of the bat. Inzamam at extra cover made no mistake with the catch. 223/7

19.2 to S Chanderpaul, and Iftikhar strikes! great delivery, surprises Chanderpaul with the bounce, at chest height. The batsman jumps back, opens the face and feels outside the off stump - sure enough he connects with the ball, steering it straight into Akmal's open gloves, who did well with a dive to his left. Iftikhar gets his reward for some consistently straight bowling. 64/2 23.5 to RR Sarwan, Sarwan falls one short of his fifty, caught at first slip off the outside edge as he played a loose drive to a ball pitched up to him. It has been a real curate's egg of an innings, and while Younis Khan will be happy to have held the chance, it should be remembered that he put Sarwan down off the first ball he faced. 77/3 49.3 to DJ Bravo, Bravo is undone by the slower ball, coming to the pitch of it but completing his stroke too early - with his bottom hand slipping off the handle as he played it - and Naved-ul-Hasan at third man takes the catch with no alarms. 232/9
9 | 2 | 45 | 1 | 5.00 | 37 | 5 | 2 | 3 | 0 | |
44.5 to D Ramdin, Ramdin is well stumped by Akmal. He lurched forward, missed the ball and while his foot was behind the line, he overbalanced momentarily and it was in the air as the bails came off. He seemed to know that he was done for even before the third umpire's decision, and the innings is coming off the rails. 183/6
9 | 0 | 39 | 2 | 4.33 | 27 | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 | |
41.1 to BC Lara, Lara looks to sweep from outside the off stump and Akmal holds a thin edge. Lara doesn't wait for the decision, sharply turning and heading off as Akmal, who has had another mixed day, celebrates. 168/4 43.6 to MN Samuels, Samuels tried to give himself room to smack it over long-on but didn't connect as he intended and the ball went right down the throat of Shoaib Malik. A tame end to an entertaining innings, and now West Indies will struggle to press on as they needed to in these final overs. 181/5

0.3 to Imran Nazir, gone! Nazir was trying to drive through the off side and the thinnest of edges is enough to remove him - an easy catch for Ramdin behind the sticks. It's all going on in the first over. 6/1 10.3 to Mohammad Hafeez, gottim! Hafeez, looking to go over the top, goes instead straight to the man at mid-on with a soft catch. West Indies very much on top at this stage - but let's remember that Pakistan have the awesome Yousuf still in, and now here's Inzy to the crease, he's never easy to shift. 39/3

3.6 to Younis Khan, gone! That delivery reared high enough to be able to leave but Khan can't resist slashing an attempted hook at it. He misses and a top edge flies through - and that's a very sunny Ramdin who snaps up the catch, his second of the innings so far. 17/2
8.2 | 3 | 27 | 1 | 3.24 | 33 | 3 | 0 | 1 | 0 | |
47.2 to Shoaib Malik, Shoaib steps back and looks to send the ball into the harbour but gets under it and Chanderpaul coming in from long-off takes the steepler. He is mobbed by delighted fielders and unlike 2003, when West Indies proved to be party poopers, the hosts have won the opening match. 187/10

28.6 to Mohammad Yousuf, Yousuf goes to Smith's obvious delight. A little short, the ball climbed on him and seamed back in, cramping him for room and an outside edge spat through to Ramdin to give him his third catch of the innings. Pakistan were cruising ... now they have work to do. 99/4 32.4 to Inzamam-ul-Haq, inducker and that's as plumb as you like - and Smith certainly does like - whooping as Taufel raises the finger. Hawk-Eye suggests that the ball may have been going over, but Inzamam is on his way and this could be the turning point. 116/5 32.5 to Kamran Akmal, ...no he can't because he's gone! Akmal slashed low to gully and that's a fantastic catch. Smith on a hat-trick now, no pressure then for Naved. 116/6

40.2 to Naved-ul-Hasan, Bravo cleans up Rana Naved-ul-Hasan, completing a miserable day for the Pakistan allrounder. Pitched up, Naved-ul-Hasan swung across the line, got a thick inside edge and dragged the ball into his stumps. Bravo wheeled away in celebration as the batsman skulked off. 144/7 46.5 to Iftikhar Anjum, Iftikhar chips a full toss from a slower delivery to Lara at extra cover where he takes the catch high above his head. 187/8 46.6 to Umar Gul, you won't see many better catches than that! A full toss driven firmly back to the left of Bravo who stuck out a hand and held the ball at full stretch no more than 18 inches above the ground in his follow through. A jubilant Bravo sprints into the deep pursued by team-mates .... 187/9 |
