Spanked straight to Moeen Ali and that's a massive win wrapped up for CSK! Full outside off, Unadkat looks to slap it away on the off side but hits it right at the fielder. Good low catch by Moeen Ali
CSK vs SRH, 46th Match at Chennai, IPL, Apr 28 2024 - Match Result
11.52pm That's all from today, with today's win taking CSK right up from sixth to third, leapfrogging SRH! But both teams are still very much in the hunt for the playoff spots. Thank you for joining us. On behalf of Deiva Muthu, Vairavan and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo, it's Abhimanyu signing off.
11.45pm Time for the presentation ceremony.
Ruturaj Gaikwad: "Feeling pretty good. It's really tough to play in such wet conditions and to win by 78 runs was a very clinical performance. Great win for us. There conditions are too hot and humid. Last game I was out fielding for 20 overs and 19 overs today. I was never even thinking about the hundred. I was just trying to make sure we get to 220 or whatever extra runs possible. Even in the last game I wasn't thinking about the hundred. I was upset I missed a few shots. At the innings break I thought it would cost us. But in the end it worked out. Last game we made some errors, some loose balls here and there, not really up to the mark in the field. Today we came up with plans, stuck to them and we were excellent in the field. With the impact rule you never know the par score, you always want an extra 10-20 runs. [On Deshpande] One area where we lost momentum in a few games was not getting wickets in the powerplay. It is the only way we can put the opposition on the back foot. Deshpande bowled really well. His hard work is paying off. Special mention to Jaddu as well. In these wet conditions, four overs 20-25 runs, for me that was a match-turning spell. I'm not very vocal. Everyone is very experienced in the dressing room and you can't just go up to seniors and tell them what to do. So I just take a back seat."
11.30pm What a comprehensive performance from CSK. Gaikwad made 98 and there were key knocks from Mitchell and Dube. Then Deshpande went two-in-two in his first over before also getting Abhishek Sharma out. SRH never quite recovered from that, despite Markram trying to keep them ticking. Klaasen struggled for a 20-ball 21, meaning he has now struck at under 100 in both games against CSK. Deshpande finished with four wickets, while Jadeja, Thakur Pathirana and Mustafizur all got in among the wickets as well. It's a 78-run hammering in the end!
Pat Cummins: "We thought chasing was our best chance to win but unfortunately it didn't come off tonight. I thought they obviously batted well but with out batting lineup, wicket was playing pretty well, so I thought we had a good chance. I think we are pretty happy with how the batting lineup is going. Nothing went right for us today but everyone in that lineup has won a game for us at some point this season. It's definitely dewy now, but it was pretty dewy in the first innings as well. It's only a couple of games [lost], so we'll look to bounce back quickly."
Tushar Deshpande: "It was a good performance. When we came to bowl the only plan was to keep bowling and having patience against a team like SRH who are very dangerous especially in the powerplay. Bowling that length in the powerplay is very crucial. Even if batsmen are hitting I back myself to keep bowling that length and inviting him to hit me. That's always my mindset. The ground was soaking wet. It swung for a couple of balls and didn't swing at all. I thought we used the pitch well. It was a bit sticky. We had a specific plan that even if they hit a good ball, we'll try to bowl that good ball again."
Back of length on leg, Bhuvneshwar fends with an open face to run it down to deep third
Full outside off and angling in, Unadkat pings it out through point to get off the mark
Jaydev Unadkat the last batter out
Catch no. 5 for Daryl Mitchell! Full and angling into Shahbaz, who looks to play a pick-up shot over square leg. But like so many before him today, he just doesn't hit it long enough
Back of length delivery around off, Shahbaz ramps it and it just clears Chahar at short third
Mustafizur for his third
Sometimes, as CSK are showing here, the favourites are that for a reason. In the ISL, upstarts Odisha travelled to Kolkata looking to upstage giants Mohun Bagan, but a stunning performance from the Schrodinger's cat of a footballer that is Manvir Singh saw Bagan soar into the ISL final.
Clipped away to deep backward square. A bit of a mix-up between the two fielders there and they get two
Full and wide, squeezed to point
Helps a length ball through square leg for a single
Bhuvneshwar Kumar. With Deshpande needing one to get a five-for!
Another catch for Mitchell! Fourth in the match! Full outside off, not quite in the slot, but Cummins goes downtown. Doesn't get all of it and that's gone straight the Daz, who has been safe as a house all evening long
Bouncer outside off, Cummins waits on it before seeing it go past him. Well, he thinks it's gone over him as well and reviews for a wide. Cummins was crouching just a bit and the ball just about went above his helmet so the third umpire decides it's a fair delivery and SRH lose both reviews
Back of length outside off, pace off, Cummins tries to cut and misses
Deshpande returns to the attack
Shardul goes wide again, Cummins squeezes it out to deep backward point
Full and wide, Cummins takes a step across but pulls out of the shot. The ball did go outside the tramline but it's not given wide. Maybe because Cummins had moved towards the off side. Cummins reviews the decision, but in vain.
Hammered over point! Fuller length this time, and outside off. Cummins thrashes an aerial drive square on the off side
Gets beaten first ball. It's a length ball outside off that just seams away ever so slightly as Cummins looks to steer it fine on the off side with an open bat face
Pat Cummins at No. 9
Samad picks out long-off and Shardul gets a wicket. Good catch by Rizvi in the deep. Cross-seam length ball outside off. Samad free his arms and swings through the line but ends up slicing it a little and not getting the elevation he needed. Rizvi settles under it and takes it low
Edwind: "Is this called CSK Squeeze?"
Angles a length ball into him, Shahbaz works it away towards wide long-on
Pathiranaa is being escorted off the field by the physio again. Sameer Rizvi is on as his substitute
Full around off, eased to cover for a quick single
Shahbaz Ahmed comes out
Klaasen holes out. End of his struggles today. Pathirana went for the yorker, but it turned into a low full toss on middle and off. Klaasen goes downtown, but can't get under it enough. Simple catch at long-on and CSK will feel much more relaxed now that the danger man is back in the hut
Dug in short and wide, Samad waits on it before dabbing it to deep third
