and GT don't even run the single! Rashid swiped this on the bounce to long-on, where Stubbs jumped and got hold of the ball. It was yet another full toss from Mukesh, but the fact that it was quite low somehow worked in DC's favour
DC vs GT, 40th Match at Delhi, IPL, Apr 24 2024 - Match Result
Another thrilling finish on another high-scoring evening. Batters just can't stop making merry, as boundaries fly and bowlers are left wondering. DC edge past GT tonight after posting a massive 224, and push themselves up to No. 6 on the points table. This IPL is well and truly on, with the mid-table traffic refusing to clear up. And that is it from us tonight, with the action moving to Hyderabad tomorrow. Until then, goodnight and goodbye!
Rishabh Pant, DC's captain, is the Player of the Match for his 88* from 43 balls: "[On giving Salam the 19th over] We have seen Nortje was having a tough time. T20 is a funny game. Especially in the second innings, after the 15th over, the ball was coming on nicely... It will come out some day or it won't. Definitely at 44 for 3, the only conversation between Axar and me was to keep going and target their main spinners. Each and every day I feel better. I give my 100%. Every hour I just love being on the field. Just try to do my best on the field."
Time for the presentations
Amit: "Surely one area to improve here for bowlers is bowling more yorkers. Those were missing in today's match, especially in death overs. That is one of the reasons Bumrah is leading in the format"
Srinath: "That save from Stubbs on 18.2 proved to be the difference in the end! Game of small margins and proves that a game can be won with bat, ball and most crucially on the field!"
Kuldeep Yadav: "Happy to get the win! These two points are very important. Obviously we had a plan. Coach and captain wanted one over [from me] when Tewatia came over [to bat]. You have to read the batsman. We batted well and put up a good total on the board. The line and length mattered a lot. I bowled a few balls to Tewatia at the wicket. I thought he would slog sweep. That was a good plan [in the end], and we got his wicket."
Shubman Gill: "I think we played some really good cricket. Disappointing to lose in the end, but great character shown by everyone. When you're chasing 224, there's not much to discuss. You have to go from ball one, and keep smashing them. Impact Player has a bit of role [in the big scores]. Teams have an extra cushion, so they just keep going. At one stage we thought we will be able to restrict them around 200-210. We gave away a few extra runs in the last couple of overs. But the good thing about chasing is that you know what you are chasing. It's a small ground, and it's chaseable. Execution becomes very important [for bowlers]. If there's nothing in the wicket for the bowlers, then you have to execute your plans - or your yorkers."
Puneet: "Strange that they didn't run the single. Every run counts towards NRR!"
11.12pm Terrific game in the end. DC win by four runs! The missed chances nearly cost DC, who had to hold their nerves right until the last ball of the night. Stubbs saved five runs in the previous over by leaping up and denying Rashid a six, and that eventually ends up making so much difference. GT keep fighting and taking it deep, but unfortunately, fall short by one hit.
5 off 1...
clobbered over long-off! Rashid takes it to the last ball of the match. Another full toss from Mukesh, and this is dipping on a fourth-stump line. Rashid squats, and sends it flying over the ropes
Raj: "Tie??"
another dot ball! Now Rashid will feel the pressure. It is a low, dipping full toss just outside off. He swipes across the line, but on the bounce to deep midwicket. They don't run
ohh, he has missed out on a full toss! And amid some mockery, it is a dot ball, and GT don't lose a wicket! The ball is a slightly high-ish full toss outside off, and Rashid reviews with some hope. But it is not an above-waist full toss, as he swings and is beaten. There is a mix-up for a run or two after Pant misses too, but in the end, Rashid retains strike after sending Mohit back
11 off 4
slashed to deep point! A one-bounce four this time, as Mukesh goes on a length, and wide of off. Rashid waits for it, and rams the slower ball away from his body in the gap
helicoptered wide of long-on! He is deep in the crease, and whips it in Dhoni style, with the ball being in the slot on middle and off. Clearing his front leg helped too
GT need 19, and it is down to Rashid
bowled him! Salam hits back with an inswinging yorker, which Sai isn't able to keep out. But Sai has done a terrific job, and invariably ensured that Rashid has the strike for GT in the final over. The length of the ball was too full for Sai to try and clip across the line, and he missed. Salam is thrilled
six again, superb! This is clubbed hard and flat, and down the ground. Sai spots another slower ball arriving from the back of the hand. The length is fuller, but the line outside off again, as Sai pumps it back for six more
bashed over deep midwicket! Sai got a back-of-the-hand slower ball on a length just outside off, and Sai saw it early to swipe across the line. The ball went soaring, and landed beyond the boundary
fullish ball angled in outside off, and a slower ball. Sai went swinging, but missed

From around to Sai
wow, what a save by Stubbs! He has saved five crucial runs at an important stage. At long-off, he leaped across to his right, and caught the ball. While realising that he was falling back, he threw the ball back. The third umpire checks replays, and sees that his right leg is well clear of the rope. Salam had bowled from back of the hand, and on a length outside off, as Rashid lofted down the ground
swung away between the keeper and short fine! It was a low, dipping full toss which finished on his pads, and Rashid almost took his eyes off in swinging at that
fullish length, and pretty wide of off. Left alone, and wide called
Mukesh appeals for lbw, but isn't supported by anyone else. It is given as not out, and Pant reviews. Sai had moved his back leg well across the stumps, with his front leg on leg stump as he looked to scoop. And replays show the ball pitched outside leg, and on a short of a length. The ball had trickled to the boundary off Sai's pads, and GT get leg byes
ahh, well bowled! A yorker just outside off, and dragged to long-off
Free hit
full and very, very wide outside off. Left alone by Rashid, and the umpires now want to check if it's a no-ball or not for landing outside the pitch. Yup, it is a no-ball
shorter side of a length on his pads, and whipped aerially to deep midwicket
Sai Kishore
Anand Babu: "16.6 - That boundary save is a hope as well!"
taken at deep backward square leg! There was almost another drop there! Mukesh went on the fuller side of a length on leg, and Miller again got his front leg out of the way in trying to flick it hard and flat. But Salam at the boundary went low to grab that, and nearly fumbled while his hands touched the ground
Mukesh makes Miller wait... and Pant goes back
Do you remember how key Paddy Upton was for the Indian team in the 2011 World Cup? Well, he may have worked his magic again as a mixture of him along with an all-time Indian sporting great and good old homecooked food has seen Lakshya Sen become a challenger at the top again. This is the story of how that happened.
clipped to deep backward square! He clears his front leg, and manufactures the room to swing his bat at this near yorker-length ball on the stumps. The ball raced away to the boundary
Akshay: "Oh boy, whatever happened to the Anrich we once knew."
dropped by Porel! GT will hope this is the luck which turns it on for them. Porel went low from deep square leg, and the ball never seemed to be getting into his hands after Rashid pulled hard at this short ball on middle and off
Mukesh replaces Kuldeep
