Full outside off, driven to cover and that seals the win for RCB
RCB vs SRH, 41st Match at Hyderabad, IPL, Apr 25 2024 - Match Result
11.35pm So that's a big, big win for RCB. They are still (barely) alive in this competition with that win. What they will be happy about is the margin - 35 runs. It will give them a net run rate boost. SRH stay third and know that they need to get back to winning ways so as to not slip down the table in the final phases of the league stage. That's it from us today. On behalf of Shashank, Chandan and everyone else at ESPNcricinfo, this is Abhimanyu signing off. Goodnight!
11.30pm Time for the presentation ceremony.
The player of the match, Rajat Patidar: "I was just keeping the things in my mind that I have to control the controllables. I kept doing the things I was doing for so long. My mindset and technique in my batting, whenever I go back home I try to solve every problem that I face. I go for the skillful batting setup. [On attacking spinners] Today I was just backing myself to be in good shape to every bowler."
RCB captain Faf du Plessis: "I forgot I had to speak at the presentation. Every game I just speak after it and walk away. The SRH game was 270+ and we got to 260, then the KKR game as well, just one run. We've been close for a while but you need to win matches to get confidence in the group. Massive win for us. When you're not winning it does affect you mentally, it does affect your confidence. You can't speak confidence into the group, you can't fake confidence into the group. The only thing that gives confidence is performance. First half of the competition we felt like we weren't near our potential. And when you're playing at 50% or 60%, you don't get the confidence. Last week and a half we have been working hard to make sure we get better at the game. Rajat getting back to back fifties will be great for him. Greeny playing well will be massive to him. It's never going to be just one guy getting the runs. [On Karn Sharma] Obviously we know that the Chinnaswamy has been disappointing for us. We are trying to find a recipe where we feel like we can bowl at that ground. And it's been tough for the guys to find a formula. A legspinner, even more so now, you have to have a legspinner in your team."
11.15pm RCB finally get their second win of the season, exactly a month after their first! The spinners did an excellent job to all but finish SRH's chase off in the powerplay. Impact Sub Swapnil Singh played a big role, hitting 12 off 6 before removing Markram and Klaasen in the first over. But that was after Will Jacks got Travis Head and Yash Dayal got Abhishek Sharma - the opening pair that has been the talk of the year. And in the end, it turns out to be a comfortable win for RCB. SRH were always going to be tested while chasing, and it hasn't worked out for them today. But Cummins did say they will approach chases with the same intent, and to be fair, they did that. It just didn't come off. But it was a much improved performance from RCB compared to how they turned up against the same opponents a few games back. They improved when they nearly eked a win against KKR, and today was another better performance.
Cameron Green: "Always nice to be back to winning ways. I definitely wasn't in agreement with [batting first] so credit to the captain and coach. [On his best role in T20s] I am still young in my career so I'm trying to figure it out myself. Of course I like to bat up the order but it depends on what the team needs. [On the Klaasen catch] I think the whole time kept thinking 'Klaasen, Klaasen'. It stayed up there for a long time.'
Pat Cummins: "We gave away a few over par and we lost too many wickets. [On chasing being a problem] Few games ago we thought we were a bat second win. I speak after wins, Dan speaks after losses [laughs]. Won't dwell on this one too much. [On their batting approach] I think it's our stronger suits to be honest. To be honest it won't come off every game, but it's definitely the way to go."
Full outside off, Shahbaz drives it in the air but it lands short of Kohli at long-off
Back of length outside off, slower ball, cut towards point
Full outside off, looks to go inside out and drives it in the air and just wide of du Plessis at extra cover. They get two
Now Dayal bowls a leg-side wide as Shahbaz goes across and looks to flick
Raj: "SRH did their part. Didn't they? They hit 9 6s vs RCB 8 even in big loss"
Meanwhile, Shahbaz gets a change of bats
Tries to go full and wide and nearly misses the pitch! Given a wide, but they are checking for a no ball! Nope, landed inside the pitch. Just given wide.
Rajkumar Lingav: "Siraj in this IPL concedes less than 6 an over for the first time and this comes in his home ground!!!"
Slower bouncer outside off, Shahbaz pulls out of the shot. No wide given. Shahbaz doesn't review it. Phew
Jayant Isswani : "Never trust Siraj with reviews!"
Full around off, drilled down the ground to long-off
Dayal to bowl the final over
Another brilliant yorker on leg and Unadkat is able to dig it back out to the bowler. Siraj finishes his spell having conceded just 20 today. He'll be happy with that
Slower short ball across Shahbaz who pulls it away to deep midwicket
Yorker around leg, Unadkat looks to flick it away but misses and it goes off his boot to the leg side
Short ball angled across Unadkat who misses his pull. Called wide and RCB review it. Ball is well above Unadkat's helmet, so the decision will stand. They check for a catch as well, but no contact with the bat. So after all that, we just have a wide
Siraj nails the yorker just outside leg as Unadkat moves leg-side and tries to squeeze it out. Can't get bat on ball though
Low full toss outside off, pushed out to long-off
Back of length outside off, Shahbaz cuts it on the bounce to deep point. Turns down the single
Siraj to bowl the penultimate
Back of length delivery outside off, Unadkat pulls it high in front of deep midwicket. They manage two as a wayward throw comes in at the striker's end
Top-edge goes for four down fine leg. Unadkat looks to make room and Ferguson follows him with a short ball. He has a swing and gets the top edge
Full and wide, he slices it up as he looks to drive but it lands short of mid-off
Miscues the pull towards deep midwicket and they manage to run two
Will Jacks with some excellent fielding in the deep. Shahbaz goes for the pull again and it just drops on Jacks running to his right. Slides in front of the ball to stop the boundary, with the ball falling inches short
