fuller length ball in the block-hole outside off, shovels it straight past the bowler to long off
Bangladesh vs Netherlands, 3rd T20I at Sylhet, BAN vs NL, Sep 03 2025 - Match Result
The Bangladesh captain collects the trophy and is now joined by his teammates for the celebratory photo shoot. And that's a wrap on the series from Sylhet! Thank you for staying with us through all the cricket action, as well as the rain and floodlight breaks. This is Rashad Mahbub, pulling the curtains on the series alongside Vairavan Karuppiah and the rest of the ESPNcricinfo crew. Goodbye and goodnight.
Player of the Series. Litton Kumer Das: "In the last two games, our batters didn't get to spend much time in the middle. Today, we wanted to see how we would perform with the bat, which is also the reason for the changes we made to the team. Credit goes to my teammates and the coaching staff for putting in all the effort. I want to thank the Netherlands for coming here and playing good cricket. I'm sure they will do well in the future."
Scott Edwards: "The rain didn't really give us a chance to show our work with the bat, which was an opportunity missed. We would have loved to have some sort of batting innings there to finish on a high, but it was not to be. Litton Das got away from us at the start, and they had a brilliant start. But credit to our bowlers; they bowled really well from there to restrict them to a lot less than what it could have been after those first five overs. I'm proud of the way the boys bowled. This was an awesome opportunity for us to get used to these conditions before the World Cup next year. We will take plenty from it, and we have a few things to work on before that World Cup comes up. We obviously go back to the Netherlands for a bit, and then the guys all head off to different parts of the world. We'll regroup in the new year."
Rana: "I sent a comment at the beginning of the game stating how I disagree with your assessment about this tournament being a good preparation for Asia cup since only 2/3 batters got to bat in the last 2 games. And BD batsman needs a lot of batting time. This is what I meant. They had 60 runs after 5 overs. And another 100 in the next 13."
Galib: "What would have been a possible DLS target set for the Netherlands if they would get to bat for 20 overs?" The maximum they could bat was for 18 overs, with a target of 172 runs, as informed by Vairavan.
9:45 pm After waiting for hours through a persistent drizzle, the rain intensified and the umpires have now decided to call the match off! The captains have shaken hands, and that's all from Sylhet today. It's raining cats and dogs out there, bringing a disappointing end to the series, but Bangladesh wins it 2-0. Mother nature, once again, takes the final victory. Post Match Presentation Ceremony coming up shortly.
musfiq : "Well, this might be the end of series. thank you Netherlands team for coming to play in Bangladesh. See you next time."
9:42 pm The heavens have opened up! It's pouring heavily outside, the fans in the open stands are now scrambling for cover.
9:35 pm The covers are still sitting firmly out there. It appears that the groundsmen are returning to the dugout area to pull out more covers. Interesting stuff...
Azhar075: "It's Sylhet's rain! It won't stop anytime soon--it'll pour all night. The people of Sylhet know this well."
From our correspondent, Mohammad Isam: The last time for a restart is 9:48pm local time. From that point, there will be enough time for Netherlands to play 5 overs to chase the DLS-set target.
9:15 pm After two rain breaks, the first in the early part of the innings and the second in the latter stages, and a floodlight mishap, the innings was unfortunately cut short at 18.2 overs. Bangladesh got the opportunity to bat first for the first time this series with a new opening duo, and they started with a bang! Saif Hassan was dropped in the very first over by Shariz, and Litton Das went on the attack, smashing 22 runs in the third over against Doram. Klein struck early, cleaning up Saif Hassan's stumps with a straight ball. Litton was in berserk mode in the Powerplay, timing and placing the ball beautifully, but Shariz was having a nightmare out there, dropping him again in the fourth over. Bangladesh's momentum stalled after the first rain break. The pitch had more moisture, and the spinners had more purchase and guile. Hridoy, who was struggling to struck boundaries and rotate the strike, lost his wicket, and the boundaries dried up. Litton was dropped again by Pringle before his brilliant knock of 73 runs off 46 balls came to an end. Klein then dismissed both set batters, Litton and Shamim Hossain, in the 15th over. A late cameo from Nurul and Jaker, who scored some big sixes, pushed the total up. Aryan Dutt and Tim Pringle were outstanding with the ball. Klein picked up three wickets but was quite expensive. We'll be back with a new DLS target and, hopefully, the weather will be kind to us!
Tanvir Obaid: "Another big challenge that I see with Bangladeshi batters is keeping the singles going when it's tough to hit boundaries. After Mushfiq and Shakib there is no one in the middle order who can work the field and get those singles."
Tim: "Just observing, but many Bangladeshi players lack the ability to play through the off. Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan are the only ones I've seen who can play to both sides of the pitch. Getting boundaries through leg can be effective when executed right, but will situationally be difficult against better teams." I agree with you, Tim. And Bangladeshi batters have been struggling for years due to this technical issue with the bat.
9:04 pm We're almost 35 minutes into the rain break, and there's no further movement near the pitch. The covers remain stable in place. Such a bleak picture for cricket fans. There is still a light drizzle in Sylhet, which is why the ground staff is waiting. And it appears Bangladesh will not bat again today. Calculations for DLS are currently underway.
8:48 pm It looks like the rain has stopped. I can see a few ground staff walking around the covers, but I'm not sure what they're doing from up here. The live broadcast camera lens is now set too far away from the pitch.
Tanjim: "@jimmy todays problem seems to be different. The pitch seemed to be slowed down a lot after first rain."
jimmyjaat: "the same old problem for Bangladesh, they are definitely lacking way behind in modern t20 cricket, even behind lots of non test playing nations. "
8:40 pm Hasan: "@Bpagur, It was just a slight drizzle for a minute or two...not raining at all at the moment "
8:31 pm The groundsmen return to action, and the umpire takes the ball from Aryan Dutt before signaling the covers to move in. It has been pouring consistently for quite some time, and the rate has risen in the last few overs. I was amazed that the umpires let them play on; it's dangerous out there for the players!
Bpagur: "Hasan, Hasan, Hasan, you there...?"
Full, straight and given! Quicker low full toss ball darted on the leg stump line, hangs back and stays inside the crease, hoicks it away with the cross bat and hits the boot of Jaker. Massive appeal and the finger goes up, Jaker opts to review straightaway. The ball is pitching just outside leg, a few centimeters, and Jaker survives!
Dutt to bowl the penultimate over, around the wicket.
short pitched ball slapped towards long on like a baseball stroke, Vikramjit comes around and slides on to save a boundary
It's drizzling quite heavily out there now.
slower ball wide outside off, drags it down to the right of long on
Smokes it over! Length ball in the slot on middle-leg, shuffles across and flicks it away over the cow corner ropes
Full and straight delivery on the stumps, moves across and gets down on one knee to play the ramp scoop, fails to connect and hits the back thigh pad in front of the off stump line. Edwards opts to review. Pitching outside off, once again. The Netherlands lost all their reviews, both times the ball was pitching outside off.
straight as an arrow! Full and overpitched ball outside off, moves away from the wicket and whacks it straight with the toe end of the bat, launches it high over long off and clears the ropes, 87 meters!
What an effort from Aryan Dutt at fine leg! Now the question is, has he taken it cleanly? Hard length ball outside off, moves across the line and plays the slog sweep shot, connects the leading edge and sends it flying towards fine leg. Aryan Dutt settles underneath the ball near the ropes, facing towards the fences and gobbles it up, tosses it backwards and gathers it on his second attempt. But during his tossing and juggling, unfortunately, Dutt touched the ropes with the ball in his hand.
Both batters are blocking one side of the field and dragging all the deliveries towards the leg side.
Slower bouncer wide outside off, shuffles across and drags it down to midwicket for a couple of runs
slower delivery outside off, moves across the line and swings it away to deep fine leg region
hard length ball on the fifth stump line, shuffles across and gets down on one knee, whips it away to the on-side sweeper fielder
half-volley delivery forces it away to deep backward square leg with the cross bat
back of a length ball parries it down to the left of short third
three-quarter length ball smothered to point area
here's van Meekeren
length ball turning in on the pads, nudged to midwicket region
full toss ball on the stumps, plays inside the line of the ball and driven straight of long off
generously flighted good length ball defends off the front foot
low full toss ball tucked away down the track to long on
flighted fuller length ball driven through the covers for a single.
