Touch full on middle, firmly punched to mid-off and pinches a run. Multan Sultans are in the PSL 2024 final!
Zalmi vs Sultans, Qualifier at Karachi, PSL, Mar 14 2024 - Match Result
Sultans won by 7 wickets (with 9 balls remaining)
Hope you enjoyed our coverage of the Qualifier. Until we meet again, It is goodbye and goodnight from me, Rvel Zahid
Usama Mir, Player of the Match: Glad we won and happy that I fulfilled the requirements of the captain in the middle overs and got wickets. I tried to bowl in right areas. When a legspinner bowls in the right areas, the surface doesn't matter and he can find success on any wicket. Our bowling is very experienced, it's easy for me in middle overs to have support from Iftikhar and then CJ (Chris Jordan) bowls terrifically at the death...
Mohammad Rizwan, Multan Sultans Captain: I'm very happy that our efforts are producing results. All the effort is for that one match and I hope we can continue in the same way. Just need to work on finishing touch...teams whose bowlers are at top usually make it to the (playoffs). We'll have to put in the same effort like in the first game to win the final. Yasir Khan got beat on first ball and then dominated, hit sixes so it was a great innings. Ground is not full maybe due to Ramadan but I'm sure we'll have a packed house in the final
Multan Sultans were utterly professional, disciplined, and emphatic in the Qualifier. The table-toppers routed Peshawar Zalmi in this crucial contest. Peshawar Zalmi still have a chance to secure a spot in the final as they'll face the winner of Eliminator 1 on March 16. Babar Azam-led Zalmi will need to reassess strategies to make a comeback, particularly in the absence of Naveen-ul-Haq, whose replacement, Walter, wasn't up to scratch. The match was far from what we expect from a Qualifier, largely a one-sided affair. Yasir Khan's vital fifty eased the pressure on the middle order as Usman Khan and Iftikhar Ahmed made sure there was no hiccup in the chase and calmly got Multan over the line. Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi lost wickets at regular intervals, with Babar Azam's dismissal off a sensational yorker from Jordan at 46 being a major blow. Following his dismissal, the team struggled to up the ante and didn't get many big overs as their total of 146 didn't prove enough. Usama Mir stemmed the run-flow effectively in the middle overs and bowled with great control.
Speared full and outside off, chopped away to point for a run, scores are level
Whoa! Thumps it many a mile over deep midwicket and it goes all the way for six to cause delirium in the stands. Swung the ball with vigor
Shine_Stine: "This PSL MS is the only team which has played like a true champion. all other 3 among the final 4 have just mediocre performance. They only managed to sneak in because KK and LQ were too bad. I will be very sad if MS doesn't won this PSL"
Hurls a testing yorker right into the blockhole, toe-ends it away to deep fine leg who makes a diving stop
Slammed in a short ball at leg, swivel pull to deep backward square
Zain: "I do think sticking with UAE is the easy route and there isn't a lot he can achieve. There's no fun in that. If he wants real challenges, Usman Khan should play for Pakistan. He offers consistent runs with a high strike rate and this is something no one else in Pakistan cricket offers. Look at Babar, he is a success with a huge fan base. The issues with PCB has not stopped him from achieving that. "
Rams the yorker which is dug out to wide long-on with minimal timing
Looks to swing for the grandstands and only grabs fresh air. Dug in short and it whizzes away from leg stump
Short of a length, attacking the stumps, punched on the rise towards mid-off
Nisar: "Usman Khan has never played a single international match, or very few domestic matches. Based solely on his performance in leagues, he cannot be rated highly enough to be selected for the World Cup. International matches, especially in the World Cup, entail a completely different level of pressure and skill."
Yorker follows him at leg, smears it towards fine leg
Slow short ball on middle, Iftikhar has been in red-hot-form, margin of error is minimal, he pulls it away effortlessly to vacant long leg region for a four. Salman vents after being smacked for a boundary. The line was too straight
Pleading for an lbw! Spears in a toe-crusher, beats his flick. Looks leg-sidish but Babar wants to take a chance. Hits the toe, almost all stumps visible, impact outside so that's that
Slower back of a length meandering away wide of off, pulled gently across the line towards mid-on
Just a touch short at the body, gets behind the line and larrups it away to midwicket boundary, right under it, timed to perfection
Opens his account in an emphatic manner, fuller and tailing in at leg, whangs it away leisurely through midwicket for a four, strong wrists!
Abdullah: "Time for the late drama supremacy?? Anyone 'up' for it?"
DISTURBS THE FURNITURE! Bowls a stupendous yorker and the bails are flying in the air, arms aloft as he loved the sight of stumps getting rearranged, got the big hitter out of the equation, too little, too late?
Bit short and some width on offer, gets low and plays a late cut so precisely, it could thread a needle in a hurricane, no chance for backward point to save a four
Tad short on middle, makes room and drills it over the bowler's head, Powell swooped to his left from long-on and intercepted it well
Backs away and unfurls a meaty cut on this back of a length ball at middle and off to deep point, Mehran puts in a dive and makes a fabulous stop
Hits a shorter length and it skids on at middle, squirted away behind point
Fraction short and plugging away just outside off, massive swish across the line, play and a miss
