bowled 'im! The perfect delivery to the No. 11 and Muqeem has sealed the deal on 3-0 for Pakistan! Fired full on off, it dipped under Maphaka's tentative prod and rattled off stump. Muqeem finishes with four-for on debut, as Pakistan win by 36 runs on DLS
South Africa vs Pakistan, 3rd ODI at Johannesburg, SA vs PAK, Dec 22 2024 - Ball by Ball Commentary
10.58pm: Jubilation for the visitors, who do the previously unthinkable - whitewash South Africa on home soil. Pakistan have good pedigree, having twice won ODI series here, but this is the next level. Mohammad Rizwan is at the centre of the celebrations as the Pakistan support staff come out to congratulate the team. Their preparations for the Champions Trophy are going swimmingly, having also won in Australia last month; but for South Africa, even considering the injuries they are carrying, there'll be some soul-searching, no doubt
Saim Ayub is Player of the Match and Series: "It's very special because we won. Credit to all the team. This award is for all for the team. They all helped me to get this award. As a young player, I try to learn from every game. Seniors help me a lot to learn from every game."
South Africa captain, Temba Bavuma: "Disappointing end to the series. We've come out with more questions than answers. There will have to be deep introspection for all of us individually and then for us as a unit. Klassie was the shining light. He was batting on a different pitch to all of us. He has really shone as a batter and shown why he has been held in such high regard. We'll be donning the whites again in a couple of days so its important that we deal with any negative emotions we have and make sure we are ready to take them on in the red-ball."
Pakistan captain, Mohammad Rizwan: "Always a proud moment for the nation. As a team we believe in hard work and leave it to Allah. If you look at the whole team, it's been a whole team effort. It's not easy to play in South Africa. But we are all together and we believe in each other and trust each other. He [Saim] is exceptional and hopefully he will do more for Pakistan."
Right, that's a wrap, but we'll have follow-ups from our correspondents, Firdose Moonda and Danyal Rasool. For now, go check out Firdose's report, and then start gearing up for the Test series, which has the small matter of South Africa's WTC final hopes riding on it. Thanks for keeping us company, from myself, Miller and the scorers, it's goodnight and season's best! Cheerio
Kwena Maphaka walks in
thumped full on the front pad - given! Rabada reviews but this only has to be clipping, and it didn't have far to go. Pitching on leg, straightening a touch, hit on the shin. No inside edge involved: clattering leg stump! Nitin Menon's finger goes up again and Rabada is a goner
fizzed down on the stumps, jabbed through square leg going back
Rabada tries to come down, swings hard again - thick inside edge to short fine saves him from being stumped!
goes for the mighty mow, misses! Just a smidge of turn away from the bat swing, into the keeper's gloves
tossed up on the stumps, swept out to deep square leg
Muqeem again
Still just above a run a ball, with two wickets standing
Naseem resorts to the bumper and gets it right on target. Flinched away off the body
crunched! Short of a length, Rabada backs away and nails a flat-batted swipe back down the ground
"My forecaster is still 20% for SA." Okay, The Bilz. Let's consider this chase a live sandbox for your kit
good length on the stumps, nurdled to leg
back over the wicket, dug in short and pulled without timing
blammo! Rabada nails one into the crowd! Round the wicket, slower ball into the arc... and KG showcases some proper batting chops with a sweet strike over long-on
length ball punched through cover - literally, as a misfield gives them one
Seven overs left, 53 needed. Forecaster 98% for Pakistan
wrong'un, sliced in the air, lands in front of short third. There's a chance for a run out, too, but Rizwan loses control of the ball as he breaks the stumps!
dragged down but he misses out looking to heave leg side, bounces away to short fine leg and there's no run
pushed through and defended into the ground, they look to steal one. Afridi's throw from backward point wasn't the best
sharply spun stock ball, spinning away outside off, beats the outside edge
fired in towards the blockhole, Rabada is a bit late on it but manages to keep the ball out
over the wicket, tossed up and driven to long-on
Muqeem now, as Rizwan looks to burgle an over of spin
"We forgive Abdullah Shafiq's three ducks for this catch!" yelps Zahid
round the wicket, back of a length outside off, steered firmly but straight to backward point
