2.6 to AK Markram, Edged and taken! Asitha strikes and roars. This is what he was working on and that shape away from the right-hander comes to his air. He lands it on a length - slightly shorter perhaps - just outside off, Markram feels for it and hangs his bat out. The ball takes the outside edge and goes low to first slip, where Mathews makes no mistake. Markram back with a low score and Sri Lanka draw first blood. 14/1 45.6 to T Bavuma, And just like that Bavuma is gone! Just minutes before lunch, the SA skipper has thrown it away. Looks to swipe this across the line and gets a top edge that sails straight up. But this is by no means and easy take at midwicket, with the ball swirling in the wind. It's well judged though by Kumara, who holds on. 165/9 49.4 to K Rabada, And that is that! Another great bit of catching from Sri Lanka to end the innings! Asitha goes short once more and this time Rabada connects well with the hook, but he finds Chandimal at deep backward square leg. Credit to Chandimal as well, as he judges this very well in the wind to hold on. SA are bowled out for 191. 191/10

3.2 to T de Zorzi, Terrific catch from Kamindu and Vishwa is on the board now. Almost a mirror image of the Markram dismissal. He lands it on a length just outside off, forcing de Zorzi to poke at it. He gets squared up and gets a thick outside edge that flies low to the right of second slip. Kamindu dives and pouches it with both hands. Two wickets after opting to bowl, Sri Lanka making the right noises. 14/2 40.6 to KA Maharaj, Soft dismissal! And the bowling change works! After a few on a good length and straight, Vishwa pops this one a touch wider of off and angling away. Maharaj looks for the drive but he just can't keep it down. Ends up chipping the simplest of catches to mid-off. 143/8

15.1 to T Stubbs, Kumara makes amends after a 17-run first over. Gets rid of Stubbs. Sharp back of a length ball shaping away from Stubbs just outside off. He pokes at it, gets a thick outside edge to Karunaratne at third slip. The ball bursts through his hands, but he manages to nestle it between his legs. Big, big wicket for SL just as Stubbs and Bavuma were looking to dig in. 46/3 17.1 to DG Bedingham, Cleans him up with a corker! On a length shaping back sharply into Bedingham, who plays all around it and sees his off pole go cartwheeling. That was bowled at 143.2kph and Bedingham was beaten all ends up. 54/4 23.2 to K Verreynne, Celebrappeal from Kumara, and the umpire raises the dreaded finger. Lovely delivery, a small set-up really. He pushed Verreynne back with the shorter ball first up and then spears this in on a fuller length. He angles it in from outside off. Verreynne's feet don't move and he is beaten on the inside to get hit on the knee-roll of the front pad. Impact is just in line and he is a goner. Sri Lanka strike early again. 83/5

32.4 to M Jansen, Huge appeal and given! Jansen opts for the review. Jayasuriya tosses it up and lands it on middle and leg at 82kph, Jansen looks to turn it across but misses and is hit on the front leg. Did it land outside leg? Only that could save him, really. UltraEdge rules out the edge, all eyes on the Ball-Tracker. Three reds and Jansen is out of here, taking a review with him. 113/6 34.3 to G Coetzee, But no saving him from this one, brilliantly taken! Jayasuriya tosses this up and Coetzee takes the bait. Looks to loft it down the ground but it goes much squarer off the inside half of the bat. Kamindu at deep midwicket is two thirds of the way to the ropes and he runs forward to complete an excellent take inches off the ground. 117/7

2.6 to FDM Karunaratne, Rabada draws first blood. Karunaratne did not look at ease against him this over and falls in a typical fashion. It is a length ball just outside off, bowled with a wobble seam. Karunaratne goes back outside off to defend and just hangs his bat at that. It takes the outside edge and flies low to Markram at first slip and he gobbles it up with a dive. Just what South Africa would have wanted after being dismissed for a low total. 6/1
6.5 | 1 | 13 | 7 | 1.90 | 37 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 3 | |
3.2 to P Nissanka, Edged and taken! Jansen is on the board now and Sri Lanka have lost both their openers. This is bowled on a fullish length on off, drawing Nissanka forward in defence. He could have easily let it go but doesn't and pays the price. He plays it with hard hands and the edge carries nicely to Stubbs at third slip. 7/2 5.2 to LD Chandimal, Chopped on and it is a four-ball duck for Chandimal. Jansen once again recovers well after a front-foot no-ball. Lands it on a length on middle and gets it to nip in just a touch. Chandimal pushes at it with half a stride leaving a huge gap between bat and pad. The ball ricochets off his back thight and he finds his off stump cartwheeling. Sri Lanka in trouble. 9/3 7.1 to AD Mathews, And again Jansen gets a wicket after a no-ball! He seems to have found some method here. But this is a nothing shot from Mathews. Length ball, angling away from him outside off, he could have well left it alone. Has a waft at that away from his body off the back foot and gets a thick outside edge to Bedingham at first slip. Catching practice and Sri Lanka slip further. 16/4 11.3 to DM de Silva, Sri Lanka are folding, and they're folding fast! And it's yet another ill-advised drive that's done the the damage. This was a little fuller and De Silva can't help but go for the drive, and a little while later it's that dreaded sound of the stumps clattering. Inside edge and Sri Lanka are six down. 32/6 11.6 to NGRP Jayasuriya, Seven down and Jansen has five! This was well above Jayasuriya's pay grade. Back of a length, angled in towards off and straightening down the line. Jayasuriya is on the back foot and has a poke. Thick edge that is straight into those pack of vultures, otherwise known as the South African slip cordon. 32/7 13.3 to MVT Fernando, No keeping this out though! That's Jansen's career best Test figures now, as he darts this in on the stumps from around the wicket. Grazes the back pad and crashes into the stumps. Sri Lanka are 9 down!. 42/9 13.5 to AM Fernando, Skier and that is that! What an incredible couple of hours of cricket! Asitha has a big swing and this one goes straight up, as Jansen calls for it and holds on to complete his seven-for! Sri Lanka are bowled out for 42 (forty two)!. 42/10

10.4 to PHKD Mendis, Someone stop Coetzee already! He screams in excittement and that's a massive wicket. Bowls it full and outside off, around the fifth stump, Kamindu goes for the big booming drive through cover but only gets a thick outside edge to first slip. Knowing his propensity to score big, South Africa must be happy big time. 32/5 12.1 to BKG Mendis, Huuuuge appeal and the finger has gone up eventually! Immediate review from Kusal, but this looked close. It nipped back off a slightly back of a length, and caught him in the crease. Struck just above the knee roll on the back leg. Only thing that could save him here is height...but it's three reds and Sri Lanka are being serenaded by the permanent sounds of joyous South African hoots!. 32/8 |

100.4 to T Bavuma, This is a serious nip-backer and Asitha has his man, Bavuma! But South Africa's captain wants to review this. It landed on a length outside off and came back in sharply, Bavuma was on his toes to defend it but got beaten on the inside edge and was hit high on the front pad. Three reds and Sri Lanka have their second success, the second centurion, at the stroke of tea. 366/5

24.4 to AK Markram, And now he's gone right through him! This one was slightly fuller than the last couple, and it nips in from around the wicket. Markram goes for the drive but can only get an inside edge that rifles into the stumps. Vishwa is chuffed. 89/3 96.5 to T Stubbs, Finally! The stumps go cartwheeling and the partnership is broken on 249. Vishwa lands it on a length on middle and leg seeing Stubbs move across to off, he looks to whip it away but misses and loses the leg pole. A fine innings and a superb partnership ends. First wicket for Sri Lanka today, one that has come after over 71 overs. 338/4

11.5 to T de Zorzi, Finds the fielder perfectly to give Jayasuriya his 100th Test wicket. Would you believe it? Both the openers were largely looking untroubled before de Zorzi decided to take on Jayasuriya. Sees the tossed up ball, gets down to play the slog and fetches it from outside off. Skies it high and hits it down deep backward square leg's throat. Asitha judges it well to take that. South Africa lead by 196. 47/1 21.4 to PWA Mulder, Plumb in front! Markram has another look and asks Mulder to take the DRS. Jayasuriya darts this slightly quicker and gets it to skid on with the arm. Mulder comes forward to play for the turn but is comfortably beaten on the inside edge to be hit low on the front pad. A bit of drift inwards also undid him. Ball Tracking taking time to load. Three reds and Mulder's done for the Test (and perhaps the series, too). South Africa's lead is 226. 77/2

4.5 to FDM Karunaratne, There's one down! It's fuller and wider, and Dimuth goes fishing with the drive. Gets a thick edge and it's gobbled up in that stacked slip cordon. 12/1 29.5 to NGRP Jayasuriya, Stunnerrrrrrrr! You cannot do that Tony de Zorzi!!! Jayasuriya - both Prabath and Sanath - stare in disbelief before the former starts dragging himself off. Unbelievable catch that. Rabada has speared it full and at high pace on middle and leg, Jayasuriya has flicked it off the middle of the bat. It goes to de Zorzi, who takes the evasive action first-up as a natural reaction, but puts both his hands up and it sticks. He cannot believe it and so can anyone who has watched this real-time. 101/5

20.1 to AD Mathews, Rapped on the pads, and it looks to be plumb. Mathews has a word with Chandimal and opts for the DRS. Jansen changes angle and goes around the wicket and lands it on a length, slanting into the batter. He looks to defend it in front of his body but is beaten on the inside due to the angle. Hit on the knee-roll of the front pad. Is the angle taking it down? It is given out, so South Africa just need an umpire's call to continue their celebration, and it is three reds on the Ball-Tracker! Mathews falls and takes a review with him. 82/3 26.6 to PHKD Mendis, There's the nick and Kamindu falls! Oh, Kamindu has reviewed it straightaway, South Africans cannot believe it and nor can I. Jansen lands it on a length outside off, slightly shortish, Kamindu wafts at it away from the body. A sound was audible real-time and the Snicko confirms it, too. I wonder what he felt but he falls again cheaply. Sri Lanka pegged back massively. 99/4 77.4 to BKG Mendis, Jansen gets his tenth for the match! The length is perfect this time, has Mendis unsure whether to play on the front or the back foot. With the line being around fifth-stump, he wanted to play it late and steer it to third again. But the around-the-wicket angle did him in. It was closer than he expected, the bat was windscreen-wiped indecisively. The edge was taken to the keeper. Jansen is pumped!. 276/9 79.4 to AM Fernando, Jansen finishes the Test with 11 to his name, bowls Fernando neck and crop to complete a 233-run win. Length ball at 135ks angling in towards leg, Fernando was sliding leg side all the time. Was opened up big time as he tried to cover the line using his hands. Ended up having his stumps rattled. 282/10

9.2 to P Nissanka, This time it looks like Nissanka is actually gone! It's a good length and straight from Coetzee, and strikes Nissanka on the front pad. Sri Lanka though review. And it's three reds...clattering into the middle and leg. Nissanka's aggressive innings comes to an end. 38/2 73.2 to LD Chandimal, South Africa should forget jaffas and just hoover up softies! The first wicket of the day - of a half-centurion - was a lobbed-up flick to midwicket, this - the second one is a lobbed flick back to the bowler. Quite the roar from Coetzee as he thunders down to the ground, throws the ball up after taking the catch around head-height, to his right. 131ks ball on a three-quarter length, on the pads. Chandimal, who was all set, went for the flick, but was too early on the shot. Shows the day-four pitch can't be trusted. Gets a leading edge, is denied a century. 271/7
24 | 5 | 67 | 2 | 2.79 | 113 | 10 | 1 | 0 | 0 | |
54.4 to DM de Silva, Chipped to short midwicket, there's the breakthrough for South Africa. Maharaj the man and Dhananjaya cannot believe what has happened. Looks helplessly at his bat and then at his partner. Maharaj lands this on a length on middle and leg, it grips and holds the surface a bit. DdS goes back to turn it across but ends up chipping it straight to Stubbs. Delight in the home camp, despair for the tourists as their captain trudges back after a 95-run partnership. 196/6 74.1 to MVT Fernando, One brings two. Might not be related other than temporally but South Africa will love the fact that their premier spinner's among the wickets. Brought the No. 9 forward, got the outside edge and a low catch was taken at first slip. Fullish length ball on fourth from around the wicket, Fernando wanted to defend towards cover. 272/8 |
