Lawrence lands the first blow and it's a deliciously flighted delivery, doing just enough off the surface to beat Rutherford's crease-bound grope and judder the woodwork!. 5/1 16.5 to DKH Mitchell, darted outside off, quick and flat and sliced to backward point! Lawrence picks up a second wicket, simple catch for Delport, standing on the edge of the ring. Still a battle to score out there. 119/6 | ||||||||||

Barnard trying to get clever but the execution let him down and Westley was left with a simple catch moving to his left, even though he seemed to lose it in the floodlight. 136/8 19.6 to BL D'Oliveira, pace off this time, clattered to leg... and picks out deep midwicket! 8.2 to MM Ali, chipped back, and Harmer stoops to take a brilliant catch! Captain versus captain, chief spinner versus chief spinner, and Harmer comes out on top! The ball just stopped in the surface, hit high on the bat as Moeen looked to work to leg - and he plucked it just above the turf diving forwards. 61/2 8.3 to OB Cox, full and hit on the pads - given! David Millns was very quick to give it, though Cox isn't best pleased. He was a long way across and looking to sweep, maybe just in line as the ball pitched and turned. In fact, the replays show he has hit it, which is why Cox was upset. 61/3 12.5 to WD Parnell, quicker ball, shatters the stumps! Parnell's interrogation at the hands of Harmer is over... Ambitious from Tendo, and he did almost everything right... but Moeen just did him enough in flight to leave him reaching at the crucial point of impact, and that's a very sharp low take!. 75/4 13.1 to DW Lawrence, picks out long-on with a slap down the ground! That's another massive scalp from Moeen! Looked for a moment as though Lawrence had nailed it with a languid followthrough, but a fraction too much elevation allowed Wessels to judge it well, coming over his shoulder, a few feet in from the rope. 82/5 | ||||||||||

Moeen pushed the field back specifically for that shot, a bit of a limp clip, as the ball shaped into his pads. A big breakthrough as Essex's strong start fails to materialise... they'll want to be ahead of the game before the Powerplay ends.... 9/1 10.3 to T Westley, round the wicket, banged in short, Westley climbs into the pull but he's top-edged it!
