Ireland vs West Indies, 1st T20I at Bready, IRE vs WI, Jun 12 2025 - Match Result
4:07pm And so, that will unfortunately be all from us for today. A damp squib (quite literally), but we will be back at it in a couple of days' time. Until then, you can enjoy our coverage of the ongoing WTC final, where Marco Jansen has just removed Marnus Labuschagne for the second time in as many innings. Until next time, from all of us here at ESPNcricinfo, this is me (Shashwat) signing off. Goodbye and take care!
4pm We have some bad news, folks. The first T20I between Ireland and West Indies has been called off due to persistent rain. The next game is scheduled for Saturday (June 12, 2025), and we hope to have better weather then and subsequently some cricket.
Have you heard of quiet-quitting? That is finding ways to do less for more - or for at least the same reward as before - and with a better work-life balance? Osman Samiuddin compares that to the recent international retirements of Nicholas Pooran and Heinrich Klaasen.
3:33pm Nothing new to report, unfortunately. The covers are still in place and it seems like it is still raining at the ground.
3:20pm Raine Delhae: "Was hoping to see a fighting spirit from the Windies following their tour of England, but have heard they are still at the hotel??" -- Carlos Brathwaite, on broadcast, was hinting towards it, but no confirmation yet on that. At the ground, the covers are still firmly on and it remains wet.
Aditya: "I am looking forward to S Rutherford's impact in this series after a disappointing one in ENG. He had his best IPL season with GT and would love to see him carry over that to WI colors." -- He plays a crucial role for WI too, and they would love for him to arrive at the T20 World Cup in form.
3pm In the meantime, do let us know what you are most looking forward to in this three-match series? P.S: Clear weather cannot be an answer!
2:47pm It has rained a fair bit at the ground, and it is being reported that ninety minutes might be needed to get it ready for play. At this moment, though, it continues to rain and so all we can do at the moment is wait...
Stoffels: "This weather is going to break from Monday and then there will be a lovely week ahead. Just in time for the WI flight out." -- Ha! Here's to hoping that does not happen!
2:41pm While we wait for this game to begin, there is some cricket happening in the United Kingdom, with Australia tightening their grip over the World Test Championship. Follow all the live action from that game here.
2:33pm Well, looks like it is raining in Bready, which means the toss has officially been delayed. There was rain forecast throughout the day and seems like that forecast has, so far, come true. Fingers crossed that this blows over soon and we can get to some cricket in the near future.
2:10pm Nicholas Pooran, aged 29, shocked the world last week by announcing his international retirement, having earlier made himself unavailable for this tour. And Daren Sammy, the head coach of West Indies, thinks that other players may follow suit too.
2pm Hello, hello. West Indies were chastened 3-0 by England just a few days ago, but here they are, in a different country, preparing to take on a different opposition - such is cricket these days. But that does offer the visitors a chance to put behind those results, despite what is happening elsewhere (more on that later), and show that they are building strongly towards the T20 World Cup next year.
Which is what Ireland will have in mind too. They will have fond memories of playing West Indies as well, having knocked them out clinically at the 2022 T20 World Cup. The 2024 iteration did not quite go to plan for Ireland, but this gives them an opportunity to flex their muscles again and reiterate their strength.
This should be fun (provided the weather stays fair), so hop on!
