2.1 to YBK Jaiswal, First aggressive shot brings about the first wicket of the series! You don't drive on the up in Perth, that's why! Edge goes to gully, McSweeney taking over from Green, takes it. It's that teasing length, technically full but behaves like it's off a length. It's around fourth stump, tempts Jaiswal to go for a booming off-drive. Edges it low to the debutant. 139.9ks. 5/1
22.2 to KL Rahul, is that an edge? Huge appeal. Not given!. Australia have just burned a review...and they go again. There was a noise. But was it bat and pad? Very close to the edge...there's a spike. Rahul appears to be saying bat hit pad. Which it certainly did. All depends on the timing of the spike. It's enough for the decision to be reversed. Rahul certainly not happy.. 47/4
1352942.23652100
10.6 to D Padikkal, Hazlewood reliably nicks off a top-order bat! Handkerchielfs out, three-quarter length on off, a bit of seam away, Padikkal's hands were low as he tried to defend towards cover. But he was late on it, the angled bat costs him as well, he feathers it to the keeper. Bush horse is on the board. 14/2
16.2 to V Kohli, taken at first slip! A ripping delivery from Hazlewood. Short of a length outside off, climbs on Kohli, he fends at it, takes the top edge and flies through to Khawaja. Could he have left it? Regardless, super bowling. 32/3
46.4 to Harshit Rana, oh wow, that's a spectacular catch! Parried by a diving McSweeney at gully, and Labuschage did brilliantly to grab the rebound. Back of a length outside, Rana pushing at it, thick edge. Travelled low and fast to McSweeney's left, he dived and couldn't hold on, but Marnus superbly alert behind him. Remarkable, really. 128/8
48.6 to JJ Bumrah, edged, neatly taken! Full outside off, Bumrah pushing at it, healthy edge and Carey takes it diving in front of first slip. 144/9
15.426724.27696210
45.5 to RR Pant, edged, sharp take at second slip! Cummins has his first. A full delivery, Pant looking to whip it away, face closes, travels quickly to Smith above his head. Should probably have been playing that straight. 121/7
49.4 to K Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Khawaja holds a good 'un this time! Short of a length, Reddy goes for the pull again, Khawaja has to make a lot of ground this time, the catch comes over his shoulder and he does very well. 150/10
512304.60235000
511222.40261003
27.5 to DC Jurel, Taken at second slip! The Bison has struck on his home ground! "All shoulder on that effort ball" says Brett Lee, Marsh had been floatier than his peers thus far, as it turns out all it's given India is a false sense of security. Jurel gets on the front foot, trying to defend it towards mid-off, but is done for pace, the bat-face opens upon impact. Good low catch by Marnus. 59/5
31.4 to Washington Sundar, Guided to the keeper! Marsh is on a celebratory hop, upper-cutting the air, looks back in surprise as it's not given out right away. It is eventually, Washington stands for a bit, stares at the pitch, but has to leave. Back-of-length ball around off, bounced more than Washington expected. He wanted to nudge while standing upright, with an angled bat, but the ball kissed the glove. Dolly for Carey. 73/6

2.3 to NA McSweeney, Much tighter call. Bumrah's questions to his fielders is 'aawaz aaya?" (Was there a bat sound? 'Pad pe lagi hai pehle' (It's pad first) and he reviews. In comes Hawk-Eye, and it's three reds!. A nervy start for McSweeney ends quickly. The ball was on the fuller side of length, landed around a fifth-stump line and seamed in with the angle. McSweeney's feet weren't moving freely and was the case again this time, he waited and tried to defend with bat (facing cover) next to pad, but the ball snuck past. Hawk-Eye showed impact was in line with off and it'd hit top of middle. Pace off the hand - 138ks. 14/1
6.4 to UT Khawaja, Taken this time by Kohli at slip, this was all set-up from Bumrah. This may not have been as gorgeous as the first ball of the over, but more importantly, it finds the edge. Khawaja was square-on, feet jammed before they hopped, hands reached out in front of the body, the straight bat couldn't cover the line. A thin edge went at an easy pace to Kohli's breadbasket.. 19/2
6.5 to SPD Smith, Boom Boom, beauty! Decks it back a mile to trap Smith plumb lbw. Goldie for the No. 4, who might as well have opened. He got a similar ball from Kemar Roach last summer, that was initially gives not out. But this looked a touch fuller, Smith went across - like he usually does - and tried to jam the bat down but had no time. The ball skidded through and thundered onto pad. 141ks, would've crashed into the stumps says Hawk-Eye. Good call not to review. 19/3
24.2 to PJ Cummins, edged, taken behind! No. 17 for the day. Wide on the crease, full, angled in at off stump, Cummins drives. Neat catch. Captain gets captain. 59/7
28.1 to AT Carey, edged, taken behind! What a start for Bumrah. Round the wicket, short of a length, Carey has a nibble at it and a regulation catch for Pant. Very nice delivery, but a half-hearted shot from Carey. 70/8
1372021.53683000
16.5 to MR Marsh, what a catch! A screamer at third slip The umpires are getting together. Marsh hasn't gone yet. Checking if it carried? Was short of a length at off stump, flew off the edge, low to Rahul's left as he came across in front of second slip. Looks like fingers are under the ball on the first replay. Magnificent catch.. 38/5
20.6 to M Labuschagne, full, straight and given! Huge moment. Labuschagne falls across looking to work to the leg side, but has called the review. He doesn't look confident. This is stone dead, surely. Smashing leg stump. A painful stay for Labuschagne is over.. 47/6
15.234833.13686002
11.1 to TM Head, As good as maiden wickets get! Rana's bamboozled Head with a corker anyone would be proud of! It's teasingly full but probably length, Head wasn't sure if to come forward or stay back. Ended up stuck in the crease, back foot well behind. Ball whirred past the outside edge thanks to seam movement and dinked top of off to send the bails flying. Rana was off against Head last over, this time he has the final word. Looked like a wobble ball. 31/4
33.2 to NM Lyon, fended to gully! The short ball works. Not as short as the previous one, Lyon moving to the leg side, has to play, the ball follows him, takes the glove and loops to the cordon. 79/9
51.2 to MA Starc, Straight up... Pant doesn't err this time. Rana returns to complete three-for on debut, India secure a handy 46-run lead. All Starc wanted was for it to be in his half, that's what he got. But the 131ks ball was short enough to be on the rise and induce the edge as Starc took a swipe across the line. Went a few feet in front of second or third slip's position. He waited for a while and gobbled it easily. 104/10

62.6 to KL Rahul, edged, caught behind! AUSTRALIA HAVE A WICKET. Round the wicket, in the channel around off stump, Rahul plays and gets a thin edge that carries low to Carey. Muted celebrations, but relief for the home side. 201/1
2192811.331090101
84.1 to D Padikkal, taken at second slip! Ideal start for Australia. Round the wicket, full outside off, Padikkal plays forward and gets a thick edge. He's waiting. They will check it's carried. Yep, straight in. That's all good. 275/2
2558613.441139013
96.3 to DC Jurel, Lbw appeal... given! That looked down leg on first viewing. India will review. Was a touch back of a length, landed on a fourth-stump line and went with the angle. Jurel tried to work it towards midwicket with a mostly vertical bat. The ball skidded through, beat the inside edge and hit the outer-half of the front pad. Around the edge of the knee-roll in fact. Hawk-Eye says it would... go on to tickle leg stump!. Touch unfortunate for Jurel but the on-field call will stay. Don't think Australia were all that confident with the appeal but you could just get it in your favour, that's why you appeal. 321/5
1206515.41446106
93.5 to YBK Jaiswal, taken at point! Marsh strikes. Short and wide outside off, Jaiswal can't believe that he's just square cut into the hands of point. Throws his head back. Quite rightly he gets a standing ovation and salutes the crowd as he walks off. 313/3
3959622.461653200
95.1 to RR Pant, Lyon outsmarts Pant. Might have seen Pant dancing down and looped an 86ks offie, decadent drift before the turn away. Line wasn't far away from the return crease. Pant's back foot slid a bit leg side early, so when he reached out he was almost doing a split, without the balance. He wasn't trying to attack, probably push it to cover, ended up falling over, hands and bat on the floor. Tried to drag the bat back but Carey had ample time to whip off the bails. 320/4
125.5 to Washington Sundar, wild swing, cleaned up! Aiming a big slog-sweep at a length ball, touch of extra bounce. Lyon's earned that. 410/6

0.4 to NA McSweeney, Yeah, debutant in headlights and Bumrah gobbles him up. McSweeney didn't wait for the finger to up, which didn't take long. Shortish ball, landed fourth stump and kept low. Batter's weight on the back foot and he tried to defend it straight, got his feet jammed, and the reflexes weren't quick enough. Got hit just under the knee-roll. Salmon trout. Stuart Broad-level celebrappeal from all of India, understandably so. 0/1
4.2 to M Labuschagne, Wow, that is awkward. Given lbw, Marnus has a word and will review but this looks, um, hopefree? Nah, no need for euphemisms, that was awful. He left a back-of-length ball that pitched on a fifth-stump line and decked in. Looked like he left it on length, but the ball skidded through to hit the knee-roll of the back leg. Marnus was hopping, tucking his belly back, lost his balance and fell palm-first into ground. This was more deer in front of headlights than McSweeney. Another celebrappeal from all of India's players. Of course it's three reds. Review lost. That will be stumps. Whirlwind end to the day.. 12/3
38.5 to TM Head, Bumrah mahn, what a guy, how does he do it? What even is he? It's not just the wicket-taking ball. It's the set up, both skill and mentality wise. This was touch back of length just outside off. The last ball was short and Head was deep in the crease. So, he instinctively went for the back-foot drive through cover, all hands, and it went all off the outside edge to the keeper. A big roar of "yess" from Bumrah before pumping the fists, getting down and roaring looking up at Head. Kohli does his thing too but that's good for seo, narrative-wise, this is Bumrah center-stage. 161/6
1425133.64614011
3.1 to PJ Cummins, Edged and taken at second slip. Century and now a catch for Kohli. Moved low to the left and cupped it safely before using the fists for support while lunging forward. Was a length ball on fifth, Cummins went for an open-faced punch through point. Didn't move his feet, followed the ball and ended up guiding it like is done at catching practice. Cummins punches his bat and walks off.. 9/2
5.3 to UT Khawaja, A bit of a laugh in the calls of catch from the fielders! It it just that assured for them. They know Pant will get around to it after running a few metres to the right, that he'll have time to take it. Didn't get underneath it? Doesn't matter, his eyes are on it, the hands reach out to the diagonal right and he pouches, and indeed couches, the ball around the chest. It was the first shortish ball of the day, Khawaja went for the swivel pull - a shot he normal nails - but this situation is anything but. 17/4
24.4 to SPD Smith, edged, taken! A beauty. Lovely bowling. Back of a length at off stump, held its line or straightened a touch off the seam, neat catch from Pant. Smith had to play, not sure what he could have done differently. He fought hard, but the odds were against him today. 79/5
13.416915.04504102
58.4 to AT Carey, A monumental win sealed with a juicy slower ball. Follows up the bumper and Carey was way too early on the forward push. 109ks offcutter landed on the fuller side of length around middle and off and spun away past the shoulder of Carey's bat as he tried to push it straight. Off stump dinked and Rana leaps up in delight. May the celebrations begin.. 238/10
1504823.20613100
53.4 to MA Starc, what a catch! Brilliant reflexes at short leg. Length ball, angling in, Starc looks to flick it away. Jurel thrusts his right hand up and holds a screamer. 227/8
53.6 to NM Lyon, Lyon plays for the spin, Washington flicks top of off . Taste of Lyon's medicine served to him somewhat. It was an offbreak looped up on a length at 84ks, Lyon took a big stride towards the line, didn't get to the pitch but reached out far forward with the straight bat. The ball got great bounce and went through with the arm to dink off bail. Washington pumps his fist in delight. India one away. 227/9
402115.25141003
43.4 to MR Marsh, dragged on! Maiden Test wicket for Reddy. Short and some width outside off, Marsh shapes to play square through the off side, gets a bottom edge into the timber. Might have kept a touch low. India just three away. 182/7
