Heat vs Sixers, 15th Match at Brisbane, BBL, Dec 29 2024 - Match Result
Sixers won by 8 wickets (with 23 balls remaining)
Expected result, in somewhat expected fashion, but there were points in the game where things seemed more evenly placed. Maybe that'll adjust tomorrow and Melbourne Renegades play a thriller against Sydney Thunder. Of course, there's loads of Test cricket going on too. So, do check all that out. Have a nice time, see you again soon.
Ben Dwarshuis, POTM: Was nice to win the toss and bowl. There was swing and seam, nice to extract wickets and keep the runs down. (On bowling in the Surge) We identify that as an area to improve. Gotta commit to a plan knowing it won't always work. Nice to see wickets shared around. Kerr's bowling well in the Surge as well. But our fielding has been great. Silk took remarkable catches. Nice to win against Heat, hope to meet them in the final and get our revenge today.
9:23pm: That game was one-sided but mainly because Sixers were so clinical that Heat had no chance to keep up. I don't expect that to be a popular viewpoint as it wouldn't factor in just how clinical Sixers were. Their bowling was planned to the T, and the batters took chances given they were chasing a smallish score. James Vince tried to get a head start but fell cheaply, Phillippe was steadier and finished unbeaten. Patterson was the game-changer with the bat though, he was super comfortable against all bowling, especially the short stuff. Bartlett bowled a few good balls and beat bat but got just the one wicket. Spencer Johnson bowled an amazing over but that was after the powerplay. The spinners weren't allowed to settle. So, once the asking rate came down to run-a-ball, the game was effectively done.
Ari : "147, 157, 167... All seem to short for the SSs to shut down" With such meticulous play, the only way to figure out what a par score is is to have them bat first
Wide on a length, cut to cover point
Slow on a fullish length just outside off, frees his arms and look to slash it square. Inside edges it onto pad, ball rebounds and trickles off side
Ryan: "One young lad in the 'friend zone' in that group of body builders too. Great scenes " Geez, you seem to have found a good spot
Another pull, through wide midwicket again. Nailed timing and placement wise
On a length, a bit of room from around the wicket, but Phillippe is able to cut the angle with a flat-bat pull over wide mid-on. Remarkable shot with little footwork
Shortish on off, pulled to square leg. Well played as that was around head-height
Fullish outside off, tries to drive through mid-off. Inside edges it to deep fine leg
Lol a row of young girls pose for the cameras like bodybuilders, flaunting their biceps with hearty laughter. Nice scenes. Coincidentally, in SA vs Pak, someone a touch older in the crowd can't bear the tension. Hands close to mouth, but she still manages to wave at the camera after seeing it point towards her
Full on leg stump, worked to long-on
Fullish length ball on off is worked to long-on from deeper in the crease
Fullish on the pads, worked to deep midwicket
Length on leg, clipped through midwicket
Full ball following him beats the flick and goes off the pad towards point
Pulls with utmost power through wide long-on to bring up fifty. Will be a match-winning one
Charges and slashes. Misses too. Was a shortish ball outside off that he wanted to slap over point
Thought there was a nick, but no appeal. Was a three-quarter length ball just outside off that Moises probably wanted to run to third. But had to straighten his bat, may have hit pad on bat to get beaten on the outside edge
Length on leg, blocked to the bowler's right
Works the length ball on leg to backward square leg
And again, but this one goes finer. Moises, with the finer muscle memory, gets it perhaps off the gloves.
Uses the angle to pull the shortish ball to deep fine leg
Length on fifth, cut to cover
