0.2 to G Gambhir, Anderson strikes. Humid conditions, there is swing here, and Anderson cashes in. Length ball, swinging in, pitches on leg, holds its line. Gambhir plays across the line. Misses it. Hit in front of leg. Given. 4/1

16.1 to V Sehwag, Monty strikes. Full, fired into the pads, Sehwag perhaps is looking to work it through that new gap created on the on. Misses it completely, the ball hits the pad, and then the off stumps. Monty is pumped. The crowd is somehow cheering the wicket. This is bizarre. But then again, who is the next man in?. 52/2 18.5 to SR Tendulkar, Monty you beauty. What a ripper. Hits top of off after pitching leg. Can't ask for better from a left-arm spinner, especially when he is doing it at a pece that doesn't let you recover after being beaten in the flight. Tendulkar is forward but the ball is not full enough. It pitches leg, and turns away, Tendulkar can't cover the turn, and Tendulkar is bowled. Again. What joy for England. Pure ecstasy for Monty. What expressive face. Swann can't stop laughing either. 60/3 38.5 to V Kohli, gone! Panesar breaks through again. Loose from Kohli. Hint of width outside off, his eyes light up at the chance of a drive but he doesn't keep the shot down and Compton takes a good catch diving to his right at cover. 118/4 61.2 to MS Dhoni, four for Monty! More turn and bounce. This climbs on Dhoni as he pushes forward, takes the shoulder bat and loops towards gully where Swann manages to get his fingers under the ball. But we are going to the third umpire to make sure. Replays look pretty good, fingers under the ball from all the angles we are seeing and, eventually, it's confirmed as out. 169/6 98.4 to R Ashwin, Monty gets five. This is a smart dismissal that he built up to through some smart bowling and variations. Over the last 10 balls, he has troubled Ashwin with everything: loopy offbreaks, quick flat offbreaks, and the full straight one. Now he slips in the arm ball, decidedly quicker, and hits him pad first as Ashwin looks to cut. Plumb, in front of off. A good innings come to an end. 280/7
34.1 | 7 | 70 | 4 | 2.04 | 157 | 6 | 0 | 0 | 0 | |
39.6 to Yuvraj Singh, and another! Swann gets Yuvraj straight away. The ball doesn't turn, slides on past the edge, Yuvraj hasn't got a very big stride forward and his off stump gets struck.. 119/5 111.4 to Harbhajan Singh, Harbhajan moves across, Swann bowls a smart flat and quick offbreak that doesn't turn much. Pitches outside off, hits him just in front of off. Aleem Dar thinks about it, is satisfied that Harbhajan hasn't got outside the line, and then raises his finger. No. 200 for Swann. 315/8 113.5 to CA Pujara, Pujara is finally done in. And Swann has done it with a wide flighted delivery. And this is one of the rare times when Pujara has been beaten in the flight after leaving the crease. Swann tosses it up wide, the ball doesn't turn - the natural variation from the pitch - and it beats the outside edge. Prior does well to stump him. Out for the first time in the series. That's 382 runs between dismissals. He has batted for 16 hours and 55 minutes, I am being told. 316/9 115.1 to Z Khan, Dar takes a long time to give this, and he has got it wrong by a long way. Appeal for bat-pad with the ball turning in sharply. Nowhere near the bat, hits the pad, then the chest, and off to short leg. 327/10

86.6 to AN Cook, really well bowled. One of the rare Ashwin overs with no short balls, and he has got the wicket. Flighted, just short of a driving length, Cook defends without reaching its pitch, and the ball turns away to take a thin edge, Punched by Dhoni. A relieved smile on Ashwin's face. His second wicket in his last 85.2 overs. Good to see Kohli pat Cook on his back as he walks back. 274/3 121.3 to MS Panesar, oh dear Monty! Goes for the sweep again, he connected well but Dhoni had just moved a man to deep midwicket. Did Paneasr see him? Anyway, it was a simple catch.. 413/10

31.4 to NRD Compton, little bit of turn, outside edge and taken at slip! The change does the trick and Compton is gone, playing forward, perhaps didn't get quite out to a ball that turned from off stump and took a healthy nick and carried for an easy chance to Sehwag. 66/1 33.6 to IJL Trott, length ball, Trott back on his stumps misses and is plumb lbw. Trott's lean spell continues, caught bang in front of all three. The ball skidded on and Trott simply didn't move his feet, hit on the knee roll, easy decision for the umpire. 68/2 94.3 to JM Bairstow, top catch from Gambhir at the stroke of lunch. Did it touch the helmet grille? Can't be sure, but they are not checking the replays and are going for lunch. Ojha bowls well. Length ball, angling in from wide, on a length, middle and leg, Bairstow looks to turn it to leg. Fatal mistake. The ball turns enough to take a sharp leading edge that goes chest high to Gambhir at silly point. He reacts superbly, gets his hands to it, the ball hits them and then his chest, and he completes the catch on the second. However, did it hit the helmet grille after hitting his chest and before settling in Gambhir's hands. We won't know until we come back from lunch. 298/4 108.4 to SR Patel, he hasn't missed this though, coming forward and getting an edge to gully. Another turning delivery and it took a thick outside edge, well bowled and a fourth wicket for Ojha. Patel drawn forward - a rarity as he had been able to hang back quite often - and nick it. 357/5 112.4 to KP Pietersen, he's gone! The magnificent innings is over. Spins away outside off, Pietersen chases it with a drive and gets a thin edge through to Dhoni who takes a good catch. Huge moment in the Test. 382/6

120.1 to SCJ Broad, super catch! Another one goes. Broad pushes forward and the ball lobs off the face towards silly point who gets down low and fast to grab the chance. Outstanding reflexes. 406/8 120.6 to JM Anderson, gone! They are falling quickly now. This turned sharply and struck the back pad. Tony Hill took his time. Was height an issue? Doesn't look too pad, he was a long way back. Two in the over.. 408/9

7.5 to V Sehwag, plays forward to a length ball, outside edge and caught by Swann at gully and England have the breakthrough. Classic dismissal, drawn forward, bit of turn, thick edge and a good catch down low. 30/1 15.3 to SR Tendulkar, gone! What a moment! Tendulkar has gone and Panesar has claimed him for a second time in the match. Trapped on the back foot, was a straighter ball which didn't turn. Tendulkar knew he was in trouble straight away.. 52/3 23.1 to Yuvraj Singh, and another! India are five down. Advancing down to Panesar, the ball spins into the left hander and it takes the glove, into the pad, which then loops to short leg. Yuvraj walked. Much simpler chance for Bairstow this time.. 78/5 27.3 to MS Dhoni, gone! Super bowling. Classical left-arm spinner's wicket. Pitches on off stump, spins away enough to find the edge as Dhoni comes forward and that's a simple catch (well, simple as they come) for Trott at slip. 92/6 31.4 to R Ashwin, aggression proves his downfall! Ten for Panesar. Well bowled, tossed up to tempt the batsman who responds by trying to drive over cover but it goes straight up in the air giving Patel the chance to settle under the catch at cover. 110/7 37.4 to Z Khan, Zaheer has shown enough patience. He goes for the slog-sweep, and has picked the wrong spinner to do so. Slogs this against the turn, the ball turns and bounces, takes a huge top edge, and Matt Prior finishes an easy catch. Forty-five for 9. 131/9

8.5 to CA Pujara, forward press again, inside edge and caught at short leg! Pujara has gone! What a wicket for England and what a catch by Bairstow at short leg, diving to his left, taken with two hands, huge strike for Swann. Classic bowling again, floated up and inviting the batsman forward; he was done by the turn. 37/2 20.2 to V Kohli, oh my goodness! What has Kohli done! A big full toss from Swann and he's slapped it straight to mid-off. Came off towards the bottom of the bat as it twisted in his hands. The ground goes silent. No one can really believe they've seen that. Joe Root, on as sub, is the man to take the catch. 65/4 34.4 to Harbhajan Singh, and Swann strikes. Quick offbreak. It is is short, slightly wide, Harbhajan thinks he can cut it, but the ball jumps back at him, and Harbhajan doesn't have enough time to recover. Trott takes a good catch to his left at slip. Forty-two for 8 now. 128/8 44.1 to G Gambhir, Gambhir won't carry the bat through. Hill has righted Dar's wrong here. Given lbw off a thickish inside edge. I am just wondering who has had a worse match: Indian spinners or the umpires? At any rate, England will come out in 10 minutes to chase 57. 142/10 |
