2.20pm: Thanks for your eyeballs for game two of this T20 World Cup. Good fun, wasn't it? That's all from us here. Join us in a few hours for Namibia vs Oman in Bridgetown!

2.15pm: A word from both captains, starting with West Indies' Rovman Powell: " Credit has to be given to PNG. I think there plans were simple and they played good cricket. I think (PNG's score of 136 for 8) it's a little, 10 or 15, too much. And as a bowling group that's something we need to work on. They played smartly.

On Roston Chase' performance: "That was very good. Started from a bowling effort, I think he bowled pretty well. And coming at the end, when we were under pressure coming there with composure, and to come out with a winning innings was great for us. I think we can be better in all three departments."

PNG's Assad Vala is proud of his team's efforts but has a few regrets: "It was a competitive score but we believe we missed a trick towards the end. Another 10 to 15 runs would have been nice. We're really happy with the way we fought. We got wickets in key moments, but we couldn't nail it at the end. I'm really pleased with the effort from the boys

"It's an opporunity and a challenge we look forward to. We try and play our best cricket against the best players. It was an opportunity to go out there and play the way we wanted to play."

2.08pm: Roston Chase is player of the match for his unbeaten 42 from 27 deliveries: "I'm very pleased. To start the tournament with a win is always good. I had to take it home for the team, and I did it.

"I knew from our first innings bowling, it was always hard for batsmen coming in to start. I gave myself time, backed myself. I've been putting in a lot of hard work so I just backed my preparation."

On Papua New Guinea's efforts: "They're not an A-List team but we don't want to take any team lightly in the World Cup. We came out with the mentality that we were playing Australia or India. We started slowly but we had a chat at the halway stage and the guys just wanted to rally and put the best foot forward. "

1:59pm: dave davud: "Despite the win, West Indies should be embarrassed by that performance. It shocks me that the game was even a contest"

ShahSafeer: "First big team has survived a big heartbreak. This should just be the beginning of that, this format allows smaller team to topple big boys. That's exactly why we needed more teams for the T20I WC!"

Vettelfan17: "If is a big old word but if PNG had ran as well as they did in the last 5 overs throughout the innings, there were 10-15 runs out there. What could have been"

Morea to Russell, 1 run

That's all she wrote! Russell takes West Indies over the line as he digs out a yorker towards long on. West Indies start their 2024 T20 World Cup campaign with victory by five wickets! But my days did they have to work for it! Outstanding fight from PNG, who, truth be told, were ahead of the game on a couple of occasions during this chase but just couldn't stay the course. Plenty of "if only" moments but they've shown the rest of Group C that they're not just here for the ride...

One bouncer four over cover! Start the car. Morea serves up a full toss outside off stump and Chase gets it out of the middle with a lovely lofted cover drive

Flicked over the shoulder for four! Chase steps across and intercepts a full ball on the sweep, lapping it fine on the leg side

Russell steps across to expose his stumps, Morea goes for the toes - on about off stump - and is picked away for a single through midwicket

Wide yorker, dug out with a horizontal bat down to third. No real pace on the delivery allows deep cover to run around to third and field

Flatter, back of a length - powered down the ground for another boundary! The 18th over goes for 18, as Chase stands tall into that lofted drive. Quality

Bang! The ideal release shot for Chase, who presses forward and drives gloriously up and over long off, from low to high

Driven out to that deep fielder on the off side

Length played off the back foot, punched into deep cover. Great running from Russell puts pressure on the fielder who throws down the middle of the pitch

Vala to Chase, FOUR runs

Back to back boundaries! And how necessary they were... Vala drags another down but doesn't get away with it as Chase flicks it around the corner. In fact, Vala should have got away with it, because the fielder running around from backward square leg got to the ball but didn't get low enough to gather and ends up getting nutmegged

Vala to Rutherford, OUT

GOT HIM! The good news for Rutherford is this time he doesn't cut into the ground. The bad news is he's cut straight into right thigh of the keeper Doriga, who ends up keeping the ball in the air and completing the catch. PNG - are you really about to do this?!
