all over! fraction short and outside the off stump, Vettori looking to slice it away ends up hitting it straight to Ponting at backward point
Australia vs ICC World XI, 1st ODI at Melbourne, Oct 05 2005 - Match Result
Australia win by 93 runs
255 was never a good looking total against this packed World XI team but the bowlers did their job exceptionally well, everyone chipped it with wickets and in the end it was a fantastic victory for the Australians
McGrath and Lee did the damage early , Bracken and Watson followed up well and one after the other the World XI batsmen were dismissed cheaply.
Watson picked up three wickets, Lee and McGrath got two each, Symonds and Bracken chipped in with one each
now for the presentaion
Pollock - I though 255 was gettable, few soft dismissals turned it the other way, We got to put it together, haven't got too many days, I am looking forward to the next one.
Ponting - `we played quite different today, we got out and played good cricket, full credit to the boys - wicket looked good and we wanted to put in a big total, 255 was always going to be a hard target, the boys bowled beautifully
other than the few dropped catches i am happy with the way we played

Until next time this is Sajan Nair signing off

bowled from outside the wicket, defended back to the bowler
Lee is back
this one goes all the way! swings across and gets it on the middle, ball sails over the midwicket fence, another good clean hit
shot! long-hop and Akhtar takes full toll, leans back and pulls it away into the gap between the fielders in the deep, excellent placement
fuller and on the middle and leg stump line, punched down to the mid-off region
quicker delivery outside the off stump, edged away to the gully region
comes down the track and ends up with a thick inside edge
played back
Australia need just one more wicket now
short of a good length delivery outside the off stump, defended
short ball, pulled away to the deep midwicket region, just a single
defended watchfully
Shoaib Akhtar is the last man in
another nail goes in! good length delivery, Flintoff once again swings hard - this time he was eyeing the long-on fence but the shot is not timed well enough and the ball balloons up in the air, McGrath running in from the deep makes no mistake
driven to covers
shot! good length delivery, Flintoff steps forward and lofts it away inside out, ball sails over the cover fence, there was a fielder in the deep but he had no chance
comes down the track and ends up driving it back to the bowler
fuller and Flintoff drives it down to the long-on region
played away to the fine leg region
