Been a run-fest! There couldn't have been a more fitting end than this. Half-volley on off, Iftikhar mows this downtown and clears long-off, Peshawar win by just four runs, second defeat for table-toppers Multan in PSL 9
Zalmi vs Sultans, 21st Match at Rawalpindi, PSL, Mar 05 2024 - Match Result
What drama and what entertainment! Spectacular batting from both sides, with bowlers having less to celebrate. Salman Irshad managed to nail a few yorkers in the last over and Babar Azam will be a relieved man to get the vital two points. After putting 204 on the board, thanks to the blistering start from Saim Ayub and Babar Azam, the innings lost a bit of momentum before Haseebullah Khan and Rovman Powell injected impetus, helping to put a decent total on this batting-friendly wicket. In reply, Multan Sultans started off slowly and didn't seem on course to get close to the target but Iftikhar Ahmed had other plans and gave a massive scare to Peshawar; he received able support from Chris Jordan, who made a quickfire 30 off 12 and nearly snatched the game from Peshawar. Left-arm spinner Mehran Mumtaz was riding high on confidence and was eager to seize the opportunity. On a day when bowlers were getting smashed all around the park, he managed to create massive problems for the batters and returned 1/20 (a player-of-the-match-worthy performance for me). The youngster has shown enough promise to deserve consistent opportunities in this PSL That brings an end to our coverage from Rawalpindi. Thank you for your company. Join us again tomorrow for the Karachi Kings-Quetta Gladiators match. For now, it's goodbye and goodnight from Rvel Zahid
Devilish yorker-length delivery following him as he backed away to the leg side, can only bonk that to Naveen at deep midwicket
Ahmad Waqas: "Gotta feel for Iftikhar!Such a dynamic low-order power hitter. Almost pulled things off.
Umair : "Ifti should be player of the match, he deserves it!
Good length and pitching well outside off, thrashed over extra cover for a four, remarkable fight from Multan
Raj: "I feel Rizwan is not suitable for this format, or atleast in the top order. Problem with him is he plays too many balls, Doesn't get out, Doesn't accelerate after the start, his game is consistent from ball 1 to his last ball , puts too much pressure to lower middle order. He's good to chase down 130-150 targets but he is not suited to chase down bigger targets. "
Low-arm full-length delivery nipping in at middle, clouts it past square leg for a four
Mehmood Amjad: "Mehran Mumtaz must be man of the match on economical figures in batting friendly conditions "
Holds his nerve and bowls a perfect yorker in the quiet zone around off-stump line, jams his bat down and can only sneak a run
nabeel: "MS need Hardik Pandya and Kieron Pollard along with 58 in three overs because if you know you know .........clue in IPL."
Good length, slanting away wide of off, toe-ended back to the bowler and admonishes himself, how often Iftikhar finds himself in these situations?
Sprays a wide down the leg side, worst possible start to the over because it brings Iftikhar on strike, snuck a bye
It's not over yet! Manufactures pace for himself and deposits it over wide long-off for a six, misses the yorker by a mere whisker and gets clubbed for a six, Iftimania is adamant on getting his team over the line
Another pitch-perfect yorker on middle, can only force it down to long-on, he is one of the best bowlers at the death
Full again with not much room, mistimed to long-on
Low full-toss with width, plinked out past point for a four, don't bother running for that, fielder had no chance in the deep. Got down low and slammed the full toss for his desired outcome
Over the wicket again, wide yorker spot on target, toe-ended to the leg side behind square not where he intended to play
Superb inswinging wide yorker, he can only drag it back to Naveen
change of plans, no yorker on this occasion. Hurls a nasty short ball at middle, he swivels for a hook and gets hit on back of the helmet around the neck region and he isn't wearing the neck guard, looks a bit disoriented and is replenishing his fluids. Good to see him back on his feet, he is ready to go again - fighter at the core
imperious! pace-off shortish ball at middle, he slinks back and hoists him for a six over deep fine, coruscating strokeplay continues! game-on
Powered down the ground. Juicy half-volley in his hitting arc and he duly dispatches it over long-on for a six, crowd loved it, they are having a ball out there. This is clean striking!
Good length, nips in and thumps his pads, fails to pull
Saim drops a tough one at deep backward square, swooped to his right, got his hands on it but then it popped out. Was a shortish ball at middle, he went deep in his crease and slugged it out of middle, got a life, well on the second look, it wasn't that tough
Length ball outside off, weight is on back-foot and he crashes it downtown for a six over long-on
Low full-toss with room on offer outside off, slashed at it, away from his body, slashed over backward point for a one-bounce four. Solid hit
