This is beautiful bowling from Abbas; hits the tight lines and lengths with unerring accuracy and gets reward for his disciplined bowling. Now the lunch will taste better to Pakistan. 70/2 83.4 to DG Bedingham, Edged and gone! Pakistan find an early breakthrough early in the morning session with the new ball. Back of a length delivery with hardly any discernable movement in the channel, quite away from him, and he looks to go for a hack, ends up getting a faint edge to the keeper. Subdued celebration as Abbas gets reward for his disciplined bowling. Bedingham wanted to score quickly and perished in the process. Fifth catch for Rizwan in this innings. 323/5 141.3 to KT Maphaka, Rattles the stumps with a scorcher! Probing line and length and the ball deviates just enough to breach his defence, he gets squared up and beaten by the late away movement, ball crashes onto the middle and off-stump and it was a lovely sight for Abbas who enjoyed the dismissal (his 100th scalp), ending with three wickets and that also brings end to South Africa's innings and a long-tiring five sessions for Pakistan in the field. 615/10 See all photos

15.2 to AK Markram, Appeal for a caught behind, a prolonged appeal and finally the umpire raises the finger in agreement. That is a massive breakthrough, exactly what the doctor prescribed for Pakistan. Length and gets some lateral movement away from off, wobble seam, he throws his hands at it and gets a thick under-edge which is terrifically snaffled by Mohammad Rizwan. Man in imperious form goes back into the hut and this will surely lift Pakistan after a flat first hour or so. 61/1 140.6 to KA Maharaj, Bouncer shoots up quickly on middle-stump line, ruffled by the short one and tries to hook it away but ends up getting a feather edge to Rizwan. Tossed up outside off and he slinks back, trying to punch it to mid-off and gets a healthy edge that is pouched safely by Mohammad Rizwan - he seldom drops those, and it's been a brilliant comeback by Pakistan in the second hour - picked up three wickets and fought their way back after a lean start. It'll be lunch. 72/3 76.4 to T Bavuma, That will cheer up Pakistan and the millions of their fans! Temba Bavuma's resistance melts away but not after he has done inflicted substantial damage to the opposition; just a slight lapse of concentration and he edges one to Rizwan, who takes a sharp catch. A really fine knock by the captain and he receives warm applause from his coach and teammates. It was an innings of utter dominance and class. Now then Pakistan have a window and would love to pick a few quickly before Stumps. 307/4 120.3 to K Verreynne, One slip in place. Cries of catch it. Down on one knee and goes for a full-blooded slog sweep, Aamer Jamal lost it in the air and but somehow managed to pouch it down his throat at deep square despite sun getting in his eyes; Verreynne wanted to slug it out of the screws and accelerate as they should, but high risk sometimes brings a wicket but nevertheless a superb knock and useful contribution. 471/6 See all photos

Credit to Rabada were bowling an absolute ripper and tempted him to go feeling for it. Shan got a good one. Ideal start for South Africa. 2/1 8.4 to Saud Shakeel, but they can celebrate this one...! Pitched up, draws the drive with just enough movement away from the bat - and a thick edge is pouched low by Bedingham at first slip. Loose from Shakeel and Rabada has another. Don't think it was a bona-fide bouncer, it may have landed around the eight-metre length, but just shot up. Was going down leg, Jamal was swivelling, hoping to pull it with the angle. Created an awkward angle and Ghulam couldn't negotiate it; pegged back and trying to get his bat behind the line, the ball bounced enough, and Ghulam had no answers to it, ended up with a feeble inside edge. Excellent delivery and he is all pumped up. Pakistan in a spot of bother. That extra kick that Jansen got and in combination with Ghulam's short stature made things tougher. 18/2

First Test scalp: Babar Azam!. 118/4 54.2 to Khurram Shahzad, Stubbs moves swiftly to the right, gets low and takes it low while on the move. Wonderful flight and drift from Maharaj, lured his man out of the crease, found late dip on a full length, beat Agha's push with just enough turn past the edge, and the keeper whipped off the bails with his back leg in mid-air! The umpire sent it upstairs, but Verreynne was already celebrating!. 155/6 53.5 to Mir Hamza, Right in the trap Hamza falls. Maharaj is helped by great fielding from Bedingham at short leg, he went down and scraped it low in the air. The fact that he didn't flinch made it impressive. Red rover for Pakistan. Hamza throws the bat one last time and only manages to balloon a catch. He went after this because of the fullness in length, maybe the angle in from around the wicket. 134ks - pace. Janse natually delivers from wide of the crease there. The full-blooded cover drive was attempted, so the carry wasn't an issue despite the pitch being slow and the bounce low. In fact, Bedingham squatted low and took it fingers pointing up as it was spearing in at him.. 205/1 58.1 to Khurram Shahzad, there's the breakthrough! And you have to say it had been coming. Khurram pushes with an open face, feet planted outside leg stump as Jansen finds some lift and away movement from over the wicket. A tame end after another fighting knock for the Pakistan cause.
