Reverse swept to the left of backward point for a single to end the game. A 19-run win to kickstart their campaign this season for Phoenix!
Phoenix vs Fire, 4th Match at Cardiff, Women's Hundred, Aug 13 2022 - Match Result
Right then! That's all we have from the women's double-header today. The men will be in action shortly and you can follow it all here. Do join us tomorrow for a Super Sunday with another couple of women's matches coming through. Till then, on behalf of Hemant and Ranjith, this is Sudarshanan, signing off. Ciao!
Sophie Devine, Phoenix captain: "It was great to just get out here with the girls. Ellyse is a star and for her to anchor the innings, it was immense. I think she said she was a little bit nervous since she hasn't played since the World Cup in New Zealand but she did really well. It's pretty similar to T20 but the intent is there. It was nice to get the momentum and keeping things nice and simple - see ball, hit ball. It was quick and it helps having the likes of Elwiss. Issy Wong is quick and it was about having the plans and executing it."
Ellyse Perry, Match Hero: "It was easier to start off and watch Sophie Devine from the other end. It was a little bit different probably easier against pace and a bit difficult against spin. The Hundred is difficult and super exciting. We've got some wonderful support staff and in Ben Sawyer, with whom I have worked for long."
5:03pm Clinical performance from Devine's Phoenix, thanks to Elwiss' two wickets and economical spell from Molineux. They were well supported by Wong, who was accurate but returned wicketless. But it was all set up by Devine's blitz of 48 and then from Perry's quickest half-century in T20s and her 82-run stand with Molineux.
Fuller outside off, belts it straight to long-off.
Charges down the track and hits it to long-on for one more.
Full and outside off, charges down and drives it to the right of cover for a quick one.
Full outside off, reverse sweeps it towards short third for one.
Molineux started the defense, Molineux will complete it as well. From around the stumps.
Full length ball on leg, George flicks it to deep midwicket. Wilson wants two and is three-fourths down but George sends her back as she slips. Wilson tries to make it back but Perry's throw followed by a dive from Jones to whip the stumps is too good.
Fuller slower one on leg, George makes room and hits it back. Elwiss dives to her right in her follow-through.
Makes room to the on side, Elwiss follows her with a really full one. Whipped away to deep square leg.
Doesn't matter for Wilson as she changes position to reverse sweep it past short third for back-to-back fours.
Mid-off goes back.
Wilson charges down to convert the length ball into a full one, smashes it well over mid-off.
Elwiss to bowl out in a bid to shut the chase out.
George makes room but Wong follows her. Only manages to squeeze it back. Wong manages to get a hand to it and parry it onto the stumps at the bowler's end but Wilson is in.
Back of the hand slower one, full outside off, slog-swept to deep midwicket.
Full on off, heaved off the inner half to the right of long-on, who does well to keep it to one.
Another slower one, full as well. Wilson looks to slog it but gets a top edge towards midwicket.
Satvik: "@Adan I get that, but just like Perry showed today. Beaumont needs to change her intent from the start to get back to the English side. We know she has the game to do so. She's not even trying that disappoints me."
Length ball outside off, not much pace on that. Chops it off the bottom edge past the keeper's right.
Wongi is here for her third set.
Slower and fuller outside off, slapped to cover.
Katie George "just doesn't care and looks to whack it down against the spinners," says Heather Knight about her former team-mate. Can she do just that to help Fire challenge the target?
High, but is it long? Nope! Perry settles under it and takes it safely. That's the end of one of Phoenix's main threat in Sutherland. She goes across and looks to heave it away. But the pace off has done her in.
Slower ball, full outside off, gets it off the inside edge to short fine leg for one.
Full on middle, hammered down the ground for one.
Skied high up but lands well short of long-on running in. Sutherland knew that she hadn't timed it well and hared back for the second, ably supported by Wilson.
Elwiss is back.
