Faiz Fazal's patient 64 set up Vidarbha's competitive 204 before the bowlers, led by the young Ravi Jangid, combined to take the side to the semi-final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Visakhapatnam.
Himachal appeared to have read the conditions well after choosing to field first. Ashok Thakur, the medium-pacer, continued his fine season with a four-wicket haul, reducing Vidarbha to 110 for 5.
Fazal, the opening batsman, weathered a top-order collapse to cobble together a valuable 121-ball 64. He received valuable support from 20-year old Jangid, who, in just his sixth match, scored a 44-ball 36.
Fazal fell with Vidarbha at a dicey position (142 for 6) but a stubborn lower-order stand between Urvesh Patel and Viraj Kadbe rescued them. The duo put on 46 in 7.1 overs, taking the side towards the 200-mark.
Himachal lost a wicket in the second over but Sangram Singh's 38 put them on course. Vidarbha, though, kept pegging them back with wickets at regular intervals and it was Jangid's three-wicket burst that sealed the deal. Manvinder Bisla kept the fight going with a doughty 37 but Jangid, the left-arm spinner, settled the 29-run win.
