Slightly shortish at off, knucked past cover and hits the winning runs, Quetta Gladiators win the low-scoring affair comfortably in the end but what a nail-biter, had us on the edge of our seats!
United vs Gladiators, 8th Match at Lahore, PSL, Feb 22 2024 - Match Result
Gladiators won by 3 wickets (with 10 balls remaining)
You could cut the tension in the air with a knife towards the end! Quetta continues their stellar run and have won three match on the bounce. There was a stutter but with only 139 to chase, it was a matter of a few timely pressure-relieving boundaries and that came off Mohammad Amir's bat in the end. Rossouw did well to hold his end despite not finding his mojo but Amir finished the job with swagger. Quetta threw away the winning situation with panic at the backend but they managed to circumvent through the wobbles and capped off another win. It was always going to be a tough ask to defend a subpar total but Islamabad didn't go down without a spirited fight. Thanks for your comments; see you all again tomorrow. On behalf of the team at ESPNcricinfo, this is Rvel Zahid signing off
Bruce Wayne: "Really bad captaincy by Shadab here - Hunain has 2 overs left and he bowled Salman's part timers!"
Adil: "I don't think bowling Salman Agha was a bad option. Batsmen were not entirely comfortable around him, apart from the odd boundary he conceded. "
Adeel: "A father is happy and his son is not.. Moin and Azam."
Hira Wahla: "why didnt Hunain bowl out his overs after Naseem's spell is beyond me"
Mohammad Amir punches the air in jubilation, in the slot and cut away up and over backward point for a four, he is pumped up. Batting with so much composure and calmness! Amir got a big smile on his face, turns the table on Islamabad with an effective cameo
Round the wicket, length and drifting in at middle and leg, swiped to mid-on and a misfield leaks a run. Sloppy
That has released all the pressure, steps away to the on side and flash a cut over cover for a boundary, what a superb shot, pressure, what pressure says Mohammad Amir?
Oh my word! Bowls a terrific wrong'un and beats his outside edge by a mere few millimeters
Ahmed Ali.Tabis: "Weather is wonderful. Here is second snowfall of the season. Bit cold but Gladiators are warming the hearts." That sounds great!
Nicely tossed up on middle, gently caressed down the floor to long-off
Beautiful loopy legbreak outside off, leans out and jabs it away to point
Wohohoohoho! What's happening out there? Shadab produces his magic again with a pinpoint accurate delivery fired at the stumps, he threw the kitchen sink at it, trying to finish the game in a hurry and ends up finishing his short stay on the crease creating more panic for Quetta!
Tapped down the ground to long-off, don't go anywhere, this is getting tighter
Looped up from round the wicket, spinning in from outside off, driven nicely and beats cover on this occasion
Looped up, cramped for room, bunted to cover
Oh, he got a bit greedy there! Tries to scamper back for the third and Akeal Hosein is well short of the crease. Scythed it away to to deep backward point, reels a throw to Munro at point who then hits the bull's eye at non-striker's end towards Salman, Akeal has to go! Drama continues
Takes the aerial route ! Thumps it many a mile over wide long-on for a six! Spinner takes on spinner, lifted it high in the air into the heavens for a magnificent maximum.
Makes room and slashed a late cut for a run
Stumps shattered, what a great sight for Naseem, look away Rutherford! Naseem manages to find ways to get wickets, but is this too late? Islamabad have an opening. Was pitched short and tailed back viciously, he stepped down to get behind the line, guessing which way the ball was going to move and ended up making a mess of his stumps. He looks disconsolate after perishing. That was an incredible delivery!
Ahmed Ali Tabis: "Once a Gladiator is always a Gladiator. Fan from Ist Season...Love from Murree Hills,Pakistan" How's the weather in Murree?
talha: "tail is as straight as can be rn..." haha
Way too short and called a wide on height
Round the wicket, thumped hard into the surface, ball gets big on him at middle, pace off, he comes down, rolls his wrists and carts it down to deep backward square to Hunain
Attiya: "@Saifi---ironic that you are commenting that for sarfaraz with this ID!"
Pace off, shortens his length and it sways across off stump, tries to pull but only grabs fresh air
Knocked down the ground! Tad short and offers width, he drills it down the ground and beats long-off, that was sweetly struck and made a beautiful sound of the bat.
Short of a length, slightly leg-sidish, bread and butter, content to just bunt it down to deep square and picks up a run with minimal fuss
