Over the wicket, tad short and outside off, swivels and says what's all the fuss about? Plays an exquisite pull off the backfoot in front of deep square and guides his team to the door of victory. Fantastic run-chase and an exhilarating game of cricket that kept us hooked till the end. In hindsight, giving this final over to Talat was a big gamble and it didn't pay off
Zalmi vs Kings, 11th Match at Karachi, PSL, Apr 21 2025 - Ball by Ball Commentary
Kings won by 2 wickets (with 3 balls remaining)
Thank you for your company and your feedback throughout this close game which was full of ebbs and flows. For tonight, this is Rvel Zahid, signing off on behalf of Sudeep Poojar and the rest of the crew at Cricinfo. Goodnight
Khushdil Shah, Player of the Match: I am getting to bat up in the order this season for Karachi but this was a pressure game and the management asked me to bat down and I wanted to take the game till the end. When last over was left, I felt good because I knew a part-timer will bowl the last over so I felt easy at that stage. Karachi is giving me opportunity with ball and bat as I prefer and it's working well. I haven't bowled Babar for the first time, I am always after him and yeah it was a key wicket
David Warner, Karachi Kings Captain: I'm very very happy, another difficult wicket, we took some learnings out of last game. Khushdil bowled fantastically alongside Nabi. Told boys to keep taking the positive option. Knew when ball get softer, will be easier to bat and won't go up and down that much. It's about staying in there and assessing if you lose early wickets. Need to win a couple more now. I always said 150 was going to be a good total, to restrict them under that was fantastic. Thankfully the boys bowled very well upfront and at the death. For us it's about trying to get off to a good start. We have so much depth in this squad
Babar Azam, Peshawar Zalmi Captain: (Reflects on the game) I got out at the wrong time and the momentum shifted after that. Think we were 10-15 runs short. It's a bit difficult for new batters to get going. Our plan was also for one batter to bat deep just like Warner did for them but then their new batters found it difficult. Our bowling combination is getting settled now. We will try to work on our mistakes and come back stronger
Smartush: "Just one question, why they didn't gave the last over to Mitchell Owen?"
Shaheer: "Saim Ayub should've been bowled out when two lefties, Warner"
Wahid: "Karachi Kings are the T20 League equivalent of the Pakistan national cricket team--often unpredictable but capable of pulling off wins in tense, high-pressure situations. This is evident from their current second-place standing on the points table despite having a negative run rate."
Waqar : "@Uzair, That's Oracle level prediction about Babar's post match conference."
Quick turnaround for Karachi in 24 hours. The home side bowled splendidly tonight and adapted to the conditions better. It was a tough surface, as pointed out by both captains, and batters had to grind and dig in for runs. Luke Wood was superb with the new ball and did well at the death too. Zalmi weren't far from sneaking a win but Khushdil Shah - the clutch player - kept his composure till the end. The main architect of the win was David Warner who infused belief, found timely boundaries and played a fantastic knock to keep his side in the hunt
Fraction short on middle, steps leg-side and drives it crisply to long-off
Around the wicket, short and wide, hammered away in the gap at deep backward point, Wood tumbles and can't get his hand to it; ideal start to the last over
Talat will bowl the last over
Searching for the yorker, ends up as a low full-toss on middle, pushed to long-on, quickly intercepted and that prevents the second run; Ali has done a fabulous job. He has raised his credentials quickly in top-flight cricket
Around the wicket, fuller and angled into middle, worked to deep midwicket, rushing back for the second, throw not quite spot on and neither a clean pick-up from TKC
Gorsi: "Big question here. Who will bowl the last over here?"
Over the wicket, back of a length and slanted in at fifth stump line, presses it down to mid-off and canters across to other end. Nobody is leaving the stadium, it's very tense out there
Around the wicket, length and angling in from fifth stump, forced along the floor to long-on.
Shorter in length, fifth stump line, nurdles it away to deep third and opens his account
Uzair: "So are we hearing "we were 10-15 runs short" again from Babar today? Has been halmark of his post match interviews across T20 games "
Uzair: "So are we hearing "we were 10-15 runs short" again from Babar today? Has been halmark of his post match interviews across T20 games "
Over the wicket, touch short and jags back at middle sharply, fails to work off the pads and it's a convincing appeal for an lbw, Tucker agrees and raises the dreaded finger. He has to take a review and he does. Nothing on the bat. Pitching in line, impact in line and just clipping the top of middle. Raza delivers the goods at such a critical juncture of the game, displays remarkable maturity for his age. This looked high though in real time
Over the wicket, shorter in length and angled into middle, clonked to midwicket and is content with a single. 15 off 12 required
Chipped in the air and swallowed by TKC at cover; rising steeply from back of a length, he larrups it in the air and the fielder runs back and pockets it well. Oh, this game keeps oscillating like a pendulum
Over the wicket, ball skimming above him as he ducks underneath the well-directed 142kph throat ball; he got floored, interesting, was quite high
Back of a length and comes back in at middle, gently caressed towards mid-off and hares to the other end, smart batting
Around the wicket, slung down full and offers width, he lashes it downtown and hits very straight, beats mid-off and there's no cutting that off. Khushdil, khush hua! He has been in stellar form this season
Over the wicket, shorter and attacks off-stump, runs it down to deep third for a run
Short back of the hand slower one rattles the middle-stump but doesn't count; it's a free hit, Khushdil troubled by the low bounce and failed to pull it away. A very eventful over to say the least
Oh no, that was a spiteful bumper and the square leg umpire thinks it's too high and it is in-fact, wide signaled. Zalmi losing the plot
Back of the hand slower one; shorter and given width, he picks it nice and early, carving it past short third and backward point for a four; crucial boundary and to make things worse, Wood overstepped! What have you done Wood? He will be gutted to bowl a no ball at this stage. It's a tight game and the error brings smile on the faces of Khushdil and Abbas
Touch short around the line off, flicked to midwicket, throw from Samad at non-striker's end, hits the bull's eye. He made his ground, was tight though
Makes him smell the leather, sprints in and gets the ball to rise sharply, Afridi ducks under the bumper
Over 20 • KK 148/8
